Ok, ok.....so I still haven't got myself a wheel yet.
My nephew has recently purchased GT6 with a G27 and the works, and has plans for a seat set up...
I'll give that a shot once he has it done.
But, as the title eludes too, this is about the humble DS3 + the new GT6.
At first, my initial thoughts and feedback towards GT6 and PD/Sony was negative. The game play (working through the licenses/categories in career mode) was lifeless, or at least I felt so.
As we all know now, the AI are pretty lifeless themselves and are an easy beat, even with a lot less powerful car. But, how things change as you progress......👍
Now, before I get into my currant thoughts on the game, I want to share my experience with the DS3.
My system is pretty new, having only purchased in late November. My old PS3 died way back in May and I hadn't even bothered with GT5 in all that time. I was over it, and happy to let it be....
So anyway, having a NEW console on hand, I naturally slotted GT5 back in (remember, late Nov., just prior to GT6), didn't bother transferring ALL my data, loading GT5 again with all the massive updates took long enough. Did a heap of the seasonals that were still available and purchased a heap of cars that I wanted/had on my old save/console. And I was happy again.
One thing that struck me as weird, the new controller never really gave a lot of feedback.
Anyway, as December 6th approached, my anticipation was growing......On the release day, I was into my local shop to grab my pre-order. Straight home, insert.......oops, MASSIVE update. Ok, we knew this was coming, but my slow internet only made the wait more agonizing....
Next morning...................I was into it. Breezed through the first onslaught of races/licensees...opened up the "online" mode.....Yippee! But it all felt too easy.
None the less, one major thing still bugged me, I was getting little to no feedback through the DS3.
The occasional nose to tail bump could be felt, but ripple strips were as smooth as the track. Checking the settings only revealed what I thought, yes, feedback was turned on. I suspected a glitch in the controller, as the steering was sometimes sticky, not wanting to re-straighten the wheels without help, and even though fully charged, it would sometimes cut out, leaving me screwing off the track.
It got the better of me, and yesterday I pulled the DS3 apart.
Inside was what could only be described as "smashed". WTF! 🤬
Now, the controller was only brand new, and as I had been the only person to use it, I was a little dismayed and upset by my finding. No wonder it was lifeless.....
Undaunted, I headed straight in to my local shop again, thankfully it's only a 15 minute drive.
The manager was hardly what you call call "understanding", saying that it must have been dropped/misused/thrown?? I told him I was the only person to have used it, but he was unmoved and not willing to negotiate...
I coughed up the cash ($68) for a new controller and walked out.
Needless to say, I am drafting up a letter/email to Sony to vent my disgust. 🤬
I know it is probably hidden in the fine print somewhere, stating that peripherals like hand controllers etc are NOT covered by Guarantee, but I have to let them know my feelings.
On the upside, once home, I immediately plugged the new controller into charge, wanting it fully charged for later last night. And I must say, what a difference. 👍
The cars actually steer a lot better, the rumble strips feel amazing, and I am enjoying it so much better than my first few weeks eluded too.
PD still need to fix a few issues as we all know, but I am now looking forward to seeing these updates evolve as I sink further into the game.
I have opened up the A-International events, and at least the AI are showing a bit of gumption, pushing me to my limit (still @ lower PP than required), but at least they seem to be trying harder.
Bring it!!
