The Britcar 24 makes it's return to Silverstone this weekend! It's not a high profile event, but it is great opportunity to get up close and personal with endurance racing, for not a lot of money, I fully recommend it for UK motorsport fans.

This is what Silverstone say about it:

"With a 3 year absence the event makes its return with DUNLOP tyres supporting the event for the first time. With the return of proper Le Mans style endurance racing to England, this race will be one you won’t want to miss with the event featuring plenty of off track and on track action right up to the famous grid walkabout prior to the 24 Hour race starting at 4:00pm on Saturday 25th April.

The event is targeted at being more than a racing event, with a planned fairground. Take part in a Car Club parade, music, motosport displays and many other activities will be displayed in the paddock to keep the crowds entertained, ice cream for kids as well as beer and food over the weekend. There will still be plenty of action on the track with massive grids for Historic Touring Cars, Porsche Racing, 250cc Karts, Sports 2000 open Sportscars, BMW Races and Britcar Trophy Races the support categories racing all weekend to keep the track nice and busy"

WHAT'S INCLUDED
The weekend is much more than a 24 Hour race! With plenty of included activities on & off track.

Entry list is here: http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/home/provisional-entry-list/

I'll be there, I think this is a great event and one the British motorsport fans should try and support.

Livestream possibly? :D

Not sure, I've only ever been there for it live :D Britcar as a series is covered by MotorsTV sometimes, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

edit: what I really want to push is the accessibility of it for UK fans. Compared to Le Mans, Spa or the 'ring, it offers a good portion of the experience, but without the cost and hassle involved. I'm not even sure how good the racing is if you were watching it on TV.

edit 2: just thought I'd mention why I'm pushing it. It's not an event subscribed to by the big endurance racing manufacturers, there have been some big teams and names on some occasions, but for the most part, there isn't a big budget presence. Between that, the cost of hiring Silverstone for the event, and the continued complaints from local villagers about the noise from the racing, I get the impression the race is in constant jeopardy. We've lost it before and we can lose it again, that would be a shame.

I glad to see its back as a 24 Hour race. I was introduced to this race via Top Gear and have tried to keep up with it ever since. Any chance Radio Le Mans will provide commentary for this race?

It's not listed on their schedule sadly. And it's not on MotorsTV schedule (at least not for the UK).

edit:

RLM just tweeted me back, no they are not covering it.

Things about to get started at Silverstone. Not the biggest grid, only 28 cars.

Weather isn't too bad...

Sir Chris Hoy is a nice bloke.

I don't suppose there is a livestream available for this race, is there?

Doesn't look like it, there are TV cameras, but it doesn't look like a live broadcast team.

The Ginetta is absolutely romping it. 9 secs a lap quicker. There is a fiesta, lapped after 3 laps... But everyone's cheering for them as they go past... Awesome. I love this race... Probably the smallest grid I've seen, so I hope we don't lose to many cars. Plenty of Bimmers though, so I'm happy.

Ginetta sounds much quieter than the last time I saw it. I guess the cars have all been silenced a bit in order to appease the villagers.

Hate that fact that basically, I'm reduced to reading updates. Would've love to have seen some for of it livestreamed, I have absolutely no way of going anywhere let alone going out of country so going in person was never a realistic option for me.

Ginetta LMP 3 had a fire earlier, the Radical is down the pack... So Beechdean's Aston Martin is leading.

The Fiesta is still going! (In last)

Well, at the end of the day, it was the Beechdean Aston that took the win, the Ginetta, come out to take the flag after breaking down 35mins from the end. The fiesta finished, which is more than the R8 or F430 managed... And the crowd cheered them home all the way, which was nice.

In some regards this 24 was a bit of a let down, felt like a small grid, and I wasn't able to pitch up near Stowe as I normally would for the night session. On the flips side, in some ways it was one of the best, and possibly one of the most emotional last hours of any that I've been to. Britcar has a contract with Silverstone for the 24 until 2019, so long as the competitors come.. I hope they do.
