Since the price of DVD burners have come down quite a bit lately, I am very confused as to what format to buy. There are DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, AHHH! :hithead: :flush:

I honestly don't know what format I should be looking for. Basically what I want to be doing is making movies that will play in my DVD player (PS2) or backing-up files.

Can anyone help me as to what format to buy? I'm probably going to be getting an LG product, as that is what I have in my system now for a DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives.

Anyway I've been looking at this:

LG Super-Multi Drive - This seems to be the best solution, because it can do all of the formats, so you're not stuck with compatibility issues...

i dont really know much about it either...like which brand of dvd players are more prone to play which format....but i'd say the best way to go would be a dual format one. It might be a little more expensive, but like you said, you wouldnt have to worry about combatibility issues. I plan to get one in the next few months or so. Wanna upgrade to ddr ram and a new graphics card first tho

Majarvis, the best format to buy is the DVD+RW. Back when I was working for Dell, They were starting to phase out the DVD-rws, DVD-r and DVD+R. The reason for this is that the -R really did not allow you to do anything with copying DVDs or illegal activities (which were never a reason for phasing it out). The DVD +R is great but it only lets you burn where-as a DVD +RW lets you not only write but re-write. I hope that helped you out :D

Get a Sony DRU510A...it has all of them except for DVDRAM. (DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW). :D And it's at a quite modest price for good burning speeds.
