DVD Drive Read Speed

According to Alcohol 120%, my DVD can read at 48x but it is only set to 2x. How can I change this back to 48x?

48x for a DVD!?

My DVD-ROM drive can only get a 16x read...and the other I think gets a 12x read.

Same here. It's hard to explain. This is from my PC User mag:

CD Speeds
With CD-R/RW drivers, you'll see ratings such as 40x12x48, which indicates the maximum theoretical drive speed when burning CD-Rs, rewriting CD-RWs and reading CD-ROMs. The 'x' refers to multiples of 150Kbps, the speed of the original 1x CD-ROM drive.

DVD Speeds
The theoretical maximum DVD burn, rewrite or read speed of the DVD drive, with the 'x' referring to multiples of 1,250Kbps.

I think that 48x is referring to the CD portion of your DVD drive.

Just because your drive can read at 48x doesn't mean that it always will. My drive rarely goes much over 12X.
