Listen to this interveiw from sarcastic Gamer. EA plans on having 2 need for speed titles a year. 1 to be more an arcade style like hot pursuit (maybe a Most wanted 2). The other being more sim based like Shift or at least going in that direction.

Interesting idea, but I'm wondering if it's referring to a game for the major consoles, & maybe one for the handhelds, ala NFS Shift & NFS Nitro.

I know Shift 2 is now in development, & that NFS World is still being updated. And surely Criterion will try to keep Hot Pursuit content going by Summer 2011. How long did they keep Burnout Paradise updates going after it's release?

I can see that. We know Shift 2 is coming out in 2011 and Shift, World and Hot Pursuit all came out this year. I would assume, since it's been discussed by EA, that Underground 3 will be the other 2011 NFS title. Although, I would like to see High Stakes 2, Most Wanted 2 or HP 4.

Hopefully Criterion will take up the arcade NFS titles. Although, the should working more on Burnout 6. But, it looks like they (along with DICE) have done a great job in capturing the NFS feel and bringing you back memories of older games. I love the no upgrade style.

You'd think after the **** they've put out they'd learn their lesson but it appears not. If they want to save the series one every two years and done properly not half arsed would be sustainable. While I don't like the New HP like I didn't like burnout, I can see they are good game and will do well. Do it properly or don't do it at all.

A good while, they were still updating their blogs for BP earlier this year. Other than Bungie, they're the only other (of a rare few) developers that seem to stick with their games well into the release of another game these days.

Don't forget Race Driver Grid. They released a NEW DLC pack earlier this year...2 years after the game came out, and there's supposedly one more DLC pack for it on the way.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that.

Add Codemasters to that list then.

Well that is your opinion and I'm prety sure they are not trying to cater your specific needs. Shift was one my favorite NFS games and the have differnt teams working on the games so they did learn their lesson by not having just one developer :ouch:.

Sadly NFS HP is not Criterion's game. They can't do whatever they want to it. Its EA's decision and they lack a track record for long term support specially now with 2 games a year. They didn't do it with Shift and HP may or may not have long term content support.

If EA wants a piece of Forza and GT they are going to have try harder and not dilute the physics of Shift 2. Larger roster of cars and longevity.

Rarely do we disagree...

I can't argue with anything here, but if EA knows Criterion as well as they think, then they'd let them go to town on it as far as long term support goes. Playing this and seeing their name every time the game starts up is just going to make me wonder how long the wait to the next Burnout is.

From what it sounds like, HP is Criterion's game. Everytime EA is asked about it, they say that Criterion has done an excellent job. It WAS Criterion's idea to do another Hot Pursuit title. I think all EA has done is offer DICE's support and publish the game. But, Criterion can handle themselves when making a game. They have made 5 Burnout Games, after all.

It's a bit early to say such things considering that this is Criterion's first shot. The game is getting some good press & fans have been saying this is where EA needed to go back to.

It's also hard to say if Shift's support was due to EA or SMS.

There /shouldn't/ really be two games each year - there should be one arcade one each year created alternately by two different developers (supposedly Criterion and Black Box) so development time is close to two years for these games. Then there are the more serious "sim" (using the term rather lightly after Shift) games that will be released "when they're ready" (these will probably all be created by Slightly Mad games) rather than on a strictly annual basis. So some years we'll get two, some years we'll get one. Despite the number, therefore, they should all be reasonable games.

I agree this is rediculous. I thought the COD series was bad producing 1 each year. But now 2 every year??!! Guaranteed to have EA server problems and guaranteed to need a patch the day they come out because of bugs and problems. 👎
I will rent the arcade type Hot Pursuit versions but the NFS simulation games are terrible. Shift and Pro Street were terrible.

Ok no one was reading my post:

There will not be 2 NFS every year.

They will alter studios to give out 1 NFS/ year.

Shift beeing not accounted in this equation.Shift will be a brand on it's own, wanting to become the leader in realistic car simulations, better than Fm or GT (yeah right ;))
For the next shift they should hire some of the modders, because they made a super mod for the physics and feels really good

EA handles all the licensing and they have a hand in everything that's done in the game. How do you think they have Porsche? Same way Porsche was in Shift. Criterion is owned by EA so its more than just offering support and publishing it. EA owns every piece of code & content in HP, not Criterion and they control the DLC because its EA who has to pay for licensing.

EA would never conflict NFS games in the same year if they have 2 arcade racers in one year. EA controlled the direction of NFS Shift. They wanted the physics tweaked for a better casual experience. This was proven by the PC version and its adjustable physics. I also said it may or may not have long term content support.

For the next shift they should hire some of the modders, because they made a super mod for the physics and feels really good

So you think the physics were the result of poor programing or making the game more playable for casual gamers?

You gave already the answer :
They wanted the physics tweaked for a better casual experience. This was proven by the PC version and its adjustable physics. I also said it may or may not have long term content support.

So they may not need the modders, but could at least take an exemple of it, as they were/ are pretty popular

SO what you just said is There wont be 2 NFS a year but there will please go back to the original youtube link and listen again Seriously

Except they're not. They already said the next NFS game besides Shift 2 will be in Nov. 2011. That's a year away from Hot Pursuit & more than enough time for Criterion to release plenty of support.

And I'm not talking about the game's mechanics, I'm talking about post-release support.

So...there won't be 2 NFS titles a year, but there will be?

Shift is an NFS title...hence the name "Need For Speed Shift". And Black Box is either going to do Underground 3, Most Wanted 2 or a new title. We will probably find out which at E3.

My point was its not up to Criterion.

You nor I do not know that for a fact.

Criterion wanting to continue releasing support for the game may give EA an idea to make even more money off it, for all we know.

Yes and that has nothing to do with who calls the shots with the games post release content. Thats all I'm debating based on track record and reputation. All the content they want to release, EA would push it all out sooner than later.

Shift will not come out every year or every 2 years (there will be at some point a year when 2 NFS hit the market, but not on regular basis):
"We want to reach a mass-market audience, and Hot Pursuit is a more mass-market appealing product than Shift," Soderlund said.

"Maybe there are two or three developers going at it every second year. Then, when the market permits and when we feel ready, we'll come up with Shift versions as well."

And on Shift, which debuted last year with Slightly Mad's effort, Soderlund outlined ambitious plans for EA to overtake Sony's Gran Turismo series and Microsoft's Forza franchise as gaming's leading simulation racer.

"We think we can compete and ultimately become market leading in the simulation authentic motorsport segment," he said.

"One of the strongest points we have is, apart from the fact we have a very talented developer working with us and we now have an established brand underneath the NFS umbrella in that segment, we also have the advantage of being a multi-platform offering.

"Forza can only be bought on Xbox and Gran Turismo is only available on PlayStation. We're the only one right now that is of a significant weight that can offer something up on all those platforms."
