RRoDzaaah!
Is there a program that allows you to edit MP3s without converting them to WAV files first? I have a MP3 that I want to split into two different MP3s.

Goldwave. I've used it before, but just to reverse songs looking for subliminal messages [heh]. I'm fairly certain it can split MP3s.

Ask Der Alta, I think I've seen him mention it twenty or thirty times. :)

hey Klos....what are some songs with some weird subliminal messeges?

my teacher said that Creed had a few.and there was one song(forgot who sang it) called "Hotel California".he said that it was really weird.

Yeah, Hotel California has a bunch of stuff. The Eagles sing it.

A ton of Beatles stuff has some messages.

Some of them may be coincidences, but in some songs there are entire sentences that makes sense, so they are obviously put in there.

Really! I didn't know that Hotel California had backwards messages.

Then again, I do feel an overpowering urge to worship the devil when I hear that song.

Is the purpose of braking out the MP3 so you can burn them to CD? Does it take that long to convert them to WAV, edit them, then render back to mp3? Most editors will actually convert the mp3 to WAV so you can edit it. You really don't notice it because it's all a part of the process of opening up the file. When your done editing the file and save it as a mp3, it re-encodes from WAV that's loaded into ram to mp3.

I use wav labs for all my stuff..., but as mentioned before, nero has a editor within it's burning app.

When you convert MP3 to WAV and back to MP3, you loose some quality.

If quality was such a consideration, you would only be working in aiff or wav formats to begin with. Even at 320kbs mp3, you've degraded your standards in the "quality" of music.

If your already working with mp3's, a little dithering in a high resolution program can achieve pretty good results, and some of the decoding from mp3 to wav back to mp3 are a lot better than they used to be.

I would be curious if the degrade in the sonic properties of doing such a task is even audiable...

I stopped using Cool Edit 2000 - I using Nero Wave Editor now for MP3 editing and WAV conversion. For CD Ripping (CDA to MP3) I'm using Audio MP3 Maker 1.13. And for playing them - the all mighty Winamp 3.

I don't use the wave editor for much. I use it to delete parts at the start and end of the song I hate - like talking and crap like that. And convert WAV to MP3. I have no need to download anything else as I have everything I need for my MP3 needs.
