Mexican officials have allowed what they promised to stop the first go around, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has escaped again yesterday from a Maximum security prison in Mexico. Guzman, the former head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, was last seen at 9p.m. local time Saturday in the showers and slipped the camera's range of vision. Prison officials checked his cell to find it empty and discovered a one mile tunnel that connected to his cell's shower. 18 prison officials were taken in for questioning after the escape.
The escape comes as a blow to President Enrique Pena Nieto, who's administration for getting tough on the drug cartels resulted in the death or arrest of 6 cartel members, including Guzman in late 2012. Guzman, already on the US Most Wanted list, faces extradition to the US, though former Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam told the AP that even though sending Guzman to the US will save Mexico a lot of money, he should be prosecuted in Mexico out of national sovereignty.
