I just have read the moderators warning about emulation, and it left me completely astounded.
I'm sorry for opening a new thread about this, but the overmentioned is closed, and so no option to be asking my doubts there.
I had to ask this to follow because I am COMPLETELY AGAINST piracy and I must be sure whether what I've been doing (in good faith) is legal or not.
I use to play my old PS1 games (all of them original and properly adquired) on a pc emulator, because my old dear PS1 died and I still enjoy to have the chance to play some of those games.
My question is if emulation is still illegal even if the games used are original and definitely not illegaly downloaded or otherwhise acquired. I was thinking that since PS1 is no longer produced, it doesn't harm anyone if I can still use my old games (which I couldn't play otherwhise, I mean, if I could buy another ps1 I would but it's impossible).
Please, it's important for me to know. Thanks in advance to anyone who will bother to clarify my doubts.

I's actually also the BIOS that is used in order to play one, the software that runs a PS1. If you have that, and you are able to play a game, you are breaking the law.

In some territories it may be legal. In some it may be illegal. In others it may be a grey area. But ultimately if there is any legally-questionable nature about anything - particularly anything involving intellectual property which has the weight of a multinational, litigation-happy conglomerate behind it, knowing that they read the site and monitor us closely - we're not going to put our site at risk by allowing completely open discussion about how exactly to go about doing it. Annoying Sony by allowing people to tell each other how to steal their games doesn't do much for our life expectancy.

Incidentally, this really should have been done through PM. Don't worry about it particularly - I have the same question asked of me every couple of months.

Oh, also buying PS1s isn't impossible - I have two - and PS1 games can be played on PS3. Many PS1 games are being rereleased on PSN, so they are very much still current games.
