Endurance Race Regrets?

Nurburgring is my favorite track overall, although I like different aspects of most tracks. As such, I was rather anticipating the 24 hour endurance race at the Ring. It was also the only race in A-Spec I had yet to do. My dilemma was in which car to use. I ended up using the Mazda 787B, in part because of the ride, in part because it was equal or better than the AI competition, and lastly, because it sounds good, which may seem superficial, but with 24 hours of racing to do, I thought it important.

Alas, however, after 8 or so hours of racing, I'm hating my choice. The Mazda isn't as nimble as I'd like on the windy roads. It's plenty fast, but not enjoyable. It got me to thinking about what would make the endurance races better for GT6.

First, it would be nice to race within class, as opposed to against all classes. That way, I could have chosen something slower but more nimble. Something more enjoyable to drive without having to worry about beating the Sauber Merc or Toyota Minolta. It would be more realistic as well. My choice would have been the McClaren F1 GTR or the BMW GTR.

Second, I would like to be able to change my vehicle settings during pit stops. A tweak to the suspension and LSD would be extremely helpful. It would also make the experience more enjoyable.

At 8 hours, I'm too far invested to quit. Now I must simply endure. What regrets do you have of your endurance race experience?

I have no regrets at all as I've chosen not to do any of the enduro's. Like you said, "Now I must simply endure", & that sums up how I feel about all endurance racing in GT5.

However, if they gave us the ability to scale the races down to 1 hour or so in GT6 (that is; a 24 hour day/night/day cycle in just 1 hour), I'd be much more inclined to try them.

As for your 1st point, I agree that the races should be held in the same class. In that way, the competition would be closer & not spread out.

About being able to make small changes in pit stops, that's a good idea as well. But it would cost you more time in the pits, especially if the AIs don't make changes like those & spend that much amount of time in the pits.

Can we save in middle of the endurance races? Haven't raced an endurance race in ages & can't remember if after any update, can we save in middle of the game. It surely was more in GT4.

Yes, you can save in the middle of a game now. But, unfortunately you can't do anything else until you finish the endurance race. I would like to be able to leave endurance to go to a seasonal or another race to break up the monotony.

I was racing the 24 Hours of Le Mans without stopping, and about 15 hours into the race, the track just "disappeared", It's the glitch that causes the track to somehow go away, and I ran the whole race relying on the map. I regret not turning on the Driving Line, but hey, what was I supposed to do?

^Yeah, I was driving the 908 HDi FAP, 900 BHP, and I had 10 laps over the 2nd place guy before my disk (disc) went beeyonkers on me.

A-Spec is kinda boring, so I spent alot of time doing it on b-spec, that way you can relax on your couch while your driver puts pedal to metal at night.

I've done LM24 in B spec 5 times.

If i had a dollar for every time i thought about this.. I do hope it's implemented in GT6.

At Le Mans it's not such a big deal - the track is long and straight along the Mulsanne so it's not as difficult to peg your settings. But Nurburgring is a different beast entirely.

No regrets for me yet. I did all of the enduros in GT4, and have won all of them up to (and not including) the Tskuba 9-Hour in GT5.

I'm not saying anything new here, but the final three enduros are a bear, especially since you have to personally race every last second of them.

For the amount of time I can get to play, it'll take me two weeks to get through the 24-Hour races. And that's two weeks where I can't do anything else in GT5. That, (I suppose) is what's regrettable.

That is entirely regrettable.:grumpy:

Interesting thoughts, I am running the 9hr at the moment. Using my muck loved modified elise. Swapped the stock turbo back and some ballast putting my pp to around 510. First couple of hours with racing hards were tight although I am only racing the rabbit which is the bit I dislike why cant the cars be closer.
The tail end charlie is being lapped every 15 or so laps. Now over 5 hrs in the rabbit is catching. I have just under 2 laps on the rabbit (an s2000) but I hadnt figured the hp loss over distance.
So now every spin and stop counts. It is getting tense, softer tyres will improve times but cost in pitting.
My regret is the times I start an enduro with a middling competitive car and have lapped the field 10 laps in. That is what needs to change.

I just did LeMans with the Escudo. Good thing I left the racing line on, that's how I got through the night. Yes, the limited top speed sucks (unless you can pick up a draft on a another car) but I spent almost half the race in the rain, where the AWD really helps. Other bad choices would have been the Chapparal 2J, Toyota 7, or Formula GT - the whole idea of going 220, in the dark, with chicanes, in the rain, with no headlights. And yet I did it anyway.
