Enigma: Can it be done?

I am not sure if anyone has put this or something similar in here. But here's the deal. I've been tuning muscle cars in GT4 since I bought it in its release. I cannot bring them down to 9 seconds or lower in 1/4 mile. The thing is that I don't use NOS, because it would make it easy to achieve my goal. I know that its there for a reason. I just don't want to use it because, for me, it feels like cheating(I know its really not). I want to see if I can race my car with just the "natural aspirations" of the car. The best time I have made with the 1970 Dodge Charger 440 R/T is 10.1. If I managed to get it down to this level, why not take it even lower. Or is there a barrier the game doesn't let you cross? If anyone ever manages to achieve this goal with this or any other muscle car(excluding the Viper GTS and the Cobra 427;both made good mid 9s) Please!, let me know either posting your complete procedure and settings here or a private message. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance to anyone that manages to solve this enigma.

OK well, You posted this in the settings forum, so I hope you're asking people about better ways to set the car up to get it below 10s...

I reccomend posting up your current settings in as much detail as possible... I'm no drag racing expert, but others here are!!! Personally I think drag racing is just for people with money as that's all it takes to be fast (IMHO).

But yeah, post up your settings, let the resident drag experts take a look...

1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440
This are all the parts installed:
racing exhaust, racing chip, racing super soft tyres, sports brakes, brake ballance controller, racing suspension, full racing transmission, triple plate clutch, racing flywheel, carbon driveshaft, 2-way racing flywheel.
The settings are as follows:
Brake balance controller: 11 on front and 20 on rear
transmission
auto 14
final gear 3.200
1st: 2470
2nd: 1697
3rd: 1264
4th: 0987
5th: 0.808
6th: 0648
The driving aids:
asm oversteer: 9
asm understeer: 11
tcs: 6

I usually change the gears at 5.500 RPMs. The first makes 60mph at 6.000 RPM, the second gear 90, the third 123 and its over before its time to change gear. No wing.
This are the settings for the car. If you can help me with it without using NOS I would greatly appretiate it.
So this is it.

I almost forgot! I think it also has the rollcage.

I haven't played much with 1/4 mile times, but start by adding ballast over the rear axle. Somewhere between 100-200KG should be optimum. Yes, acceleration is slower with more weight... only when the cars tires are not burning... The ballast will allow better acceleration when the tires burn-out...

Do a second gear launch. Some higher power cars work better launching in 3rd, but I only noted this with the Speed 12.

Try just a sport or semi-race suspension. If the game stays realistic, a racing suspension is counterproductive to 1/4 mile racing. They are designed for cornering. Also set camber, and toe to zero. Raise the rear end near or at maximum height and have the front a bit lower. Play with the rear shock settings. The front's stiffness probably won't matter, but probaly firm in the rear, soft in the front.

The TCS will matter. For optimizing it, when the gearing and ballast are close to optimum, I run multiple times with auto transmission being careful to launch at the same RPM, finding my best TCS setting. Normally between 6-8 for 1/4 mile. Using auto, you can also optimise the gears and ballast. Just keep in mind, one at a time, then they may have a minor affect on the other two. However, manual is almost always required for best ET's

Final thing.... I have found the best launch RPM's to normally be between 2/3 redline to redline depending on the car and setup. Some cars require you to hold at a set RPM while jumping out of the hole too. So many variables...

Good Luck. I don't know if the Charger or SuperBird will get below 9 secs, but the Buick and the Cuda should both achieve that.

It's not really doing any difference. This is getting frustrating. This game doesn't let you run musclecars under 10 seconds or have more than 690hp on them.
Do you have your settings or exact specifications on this matter. I have tried every inch of my ability and still no 9 second muscle cars. And srew the NOS. That's for wuzzies. I'm begining to think you can't do 9s in musclecars in this game. thanks for the help

Genral opinion is both traction control and asm slow you down so for a starter ditch them. (They are for the real wussies) Then if your getting wheelspin on the line give pulling away in 2nd a try and or a complete rehash of your gearing which is the key to a good time.

Tell you what, I'm gonna give this a try this weekend and see what I come up with OK...

I'm no drag expert, but I get the just of what it's about, so I'll play around with my fave muscle car (Plymouth Cuda) and see where I get it without NOS and then with NOS...

I'll post my findings on Monday...

I'd lower the TCS, raise the front and drop the back. Also stiffen the front.

Some ballast but I think 100-200 kg is too much, personally.

Put the auto setting for the tranny around 3-5. You'll go through the gears quicker and have better launch speed. Put the TCS down to around 1 so you have more power going to the rear wheels without spinning them. Get the Limited Slip upgrade and put the accel to the higest, decel to lowest and intial torque to the highest. Also make the rear springs softer so when you get off the line your back tires should be making full contact with the tarmac. I tried this on my Viper and was able to get in the 9 seconds without Nitrous. Hope this helps 👍

Oh on earth does that work???

The back should be higher because that help with weight transfer under heavy acceleration... The front spring don't matter very much as there's not that much weight on them... it's the rear springs that make the biggest difference...

Technically, Stiff front springs can help keep the weight toward the rear during gear changes.. but, we're probably talking thousandth's here.. but, ViX is right. High rear end is best..

I'd probaby have a shock combo of 10/1:1/10 too.. or there abouts
and LSD all set to 60.. just for starters..

I'm gonna try it this weekend....

Off Topic: ENTHUSIA JUST ARRIVED, YEAAAAAHHHHAAAAAHHHH.... I'm gonna pick it up from the post office just now...

E N I G M A

It CANNOT be done... I spent an hour yesterday tuning every possible variation, settings, gear ratio's, the works with the 440 Charger... 10.3 was the best I managed, oddly enough 10.1 with NOS... Couldn' break 9!!!!

Clap Clap Clap...

No offense, but the original thread poster said NO NOS!!! He said he can get under 10 with NOS, but wanted someone to do it without NOS!!!

On a personal note, I'd like to see someone do it without TCS, takes all the skill out of it... I could prolly nail a sub 10 with TCS too... But that's not very realistic in a drag car!!!

Sorry for my seemingly rude reply, But you didn't read the actual point of the thread...

It may sound stupid or paranoid. Maybe it is because of the fact that I get frustrated with this game every day because it seems that muscle cars in this game are not fast(and that's bogus!). But do you think that these cars are programed like that on purpose. What do you people think on this?

Good on u rat!

In reply to others who suggest high rear height, you need the rear low and the front high, this gives more weight to the rear thus reducing losses in traction.
