Ever won a race in reverse?

I was racing just before in the Turbo championship in the Professional Hall at New York. I was winning by about ten seconds in my Stagea 260RS  from an Audi (i don't remember exactly what model it was) on the last corner before the main straight. So I went thru the last corner with that ten second lead and powered down the main straight and I thought to myself, "Hey I've pretty much won", had a lapse of concentration and clipped the wall just before the finish, spinning the car around. All of sudden I'm looking down the straight at the second placed Audi coming closer and closer. At that stage, a voice in my head is screaming, 'reverse gear, reverse gear', so jammed my finger down on reverse and reversed over the line to win the race by under a second. :) It was prettty funny actually.

Anyone done anything like this, finished a race in reverse gear or had a weird ending to a race?

Yeah, back in my GT2 and GT3 days, where I'd use insanely overpowered cars, I'd e-brake the tail around and back across the line.

I've also done 180s, yanked reverse, and pulled a J-turn on some corners of some tracks without losing much speed.

I still do that now RJ. :P I love doing 360's, 720's, drifts & more down the main straight of GVS when I have a huge lead then hitting reverse if I lose it before the end, still winning by a couple of tenths at the end. :D

I try to keep my races too close for that kind of tomfoolery. That, and the 'ol e-brake doesn't work as well as it used to... You know what I mean, right? Mr. CAT FACE?

:P

You guys know what else you can do? Grab a car with very very long gearing (Chapparal 2D for example) and try the sunday cup, completely in reverse. THAT would be hilarious, but i couldn't manage it. If someone does it, put up a video!

heh i actually didn't think of that.

but really though, i thought this thread was going to discuss if you ever won a race in reverse completely, driven in reverse the WHOLE time.. which then again would be kind of stupid, it CAN be done though with Idiot AI Codes on haha

Yeah, with the Stage 4 turbo and no messing with the tranny, the reverse gear goes all the way to 120 mph! I've never tried it without the turbo before, though.

:-)

I usually just use the e-brake. Although sometimes I mess up while doing this at certain tracks(w/ multiple finish lines). One time I was doing this at suzuka and I did it at the wrong finish line. Another time I did it too early. Both times I lost the race.:( So now I don't do that too often.

The Chaparral 2D can actually do over 210mph in reverse if you spend a little while setting it up!

It actually becomes incredibly difficult to control at that speed though; by reversing the car you have rear wheel steering (like a fork lift truck). Still, with that kind of speed it should be more than capable of clearing at least some events. 👍

 That's an awesome video, MasterStorm! Of course it becomes difficult to control; the car was not designed to go 210 mph in the wrong direction! Honestly, I had no idea you could change the gear ratio for reverse. Although the settings screen is not somewhere I spend a lot of time in... The only issue I see with trying to do events with the car set up like that is that the acceleration must be very poor at low speeds, and if you spin (and that's easy to do!) it will take a long time to get back up to speed. Do you know of any car that can go faster than the 2D in reverse?

I can't remember ever winning a race in reverse in this game, but I have for fun in NFS games. Usually I'm too preoccupied with just finishing the race in GT4 to try, and I don't know how to use the e-brake very well.

I think it could be possible by using the Chapparal (or something similar) on Family Cup on a long straight course (Seoul maybe?) and setting difficulty to -10.

Definitely. I just won a Sunday Cup race with the chapparal, video and pics coming up shortly...

i did in Forza 2,

i was playing an average player at road atlanta and i spun out on the final turn and hit the tire wall. As he was coming he got over excited and on the final turn hit the tires too, so we drag raced to the finish line with me in reverse and i won. :dopey:

Well, here are some pics for now, video is taking years and years to upload.
In case you can't tell, this is the Sunday Cup: High-Speed Ring.

Took me several attempts, but i managed to stay on the track most of the time.
~Bottom Line: It is possible to win a race completely in reverse!~

Well, that's an idea. Shame my youtube account is 🤬 up, i'll upload it some other time. I'm also trying the same car on the Sunday Cup: Twin Ring Montegi West.

that is just plain crazy man, those pictures are  you look at the side, you wave hello and bye-bye to your opponent at the same time,
