EVO magazine Nurburgring special

The latest copy of EVO magazine http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/evo/ is a Nurburgring special and includes a guide to driving the 10 most difficult corners by Phil Bennett, a previous Nurburgring lap record holder in the Radical SR3 Turbo.

I'm away from home at the moment, so I don't have access to a scanner. However I will scan in the circuit guide from the magazine when I get back, unless of course someone else does it in the mean time.

There is also a small feature on the Donkervoort RS270, which is the current lap record holder at 7min 18.01sec. Here is a pictures of the Donkervoort RS270, hope it makes it into GT5.

Its a good piece, in particular the article with Nick Heidfeld (Williams F1 driver) on the M5 and the 'ring.

They talk a lot about the differences between GT4 and reality quite a bit, the fear factor is mentioned a couple of times.

"I take a bit more risk on the Playstation, he (Nick Heidfeld) smiles"

and

"On the Playstation that would have been flat-out. I'm glad I didn't try that"

Also on the acuracy of the GT4 version, which some have complained is to narrow and too bumpy.

"the track feels much bumpier and narrower than I recall from previous laps and from GT4"

I strongly recomend that anyone with an interest in the 'ring pick up a copy, as they are also building a '95 M3 GT project car, in an attempt to lap the 'ring in under 8 minutes with a budget of £15k.

The actual attempt will be in a few months time, but in this issue they start the project off with aquiring the car and starting work on it.

how much is evo??
i cant seem to find it any where do u know where i can order it from??

I subscribe and generally get it a few days before it is on the shelves. You should be able to get it in any newsagent/supermarket in the next few days.

wans't CAR going to do something like this as well around Nurb? has anyone seen that article?
Man :indiff: CAR & EVO are about $10 +Tax here in California.

That shuld be a good article. must check it out :dopey:

EVO is a very good magazine! I only have got like three issues though, it's pretty hard to find and pretty expensive aswell. 9.60€ a copy.

But this is an issue I must have, thanks for telling about the 'Ring article 👍

Try eBay, there is often several issues of EVO for sale including the current issue, and even with postage it may be cheaper than buying it the shops if you are outside the UK.

Or try calling the EVO subscriptions department. Follow the link in my original post and click current issue or subscribe. I think they do worldwide subscriptoins so this may be a useful to you, but not sure of the cost without checking.

For those people in the UK, EVO frequently do a 3 issues for £1 trial subscription, just need to keep an eye out for the adverts of flyers. You can of course cancel the trial subscription at the end of the 3rd issue if you want to.

Granted $10 for a magazine is a lot to pay in the states but the level of writing and content in EVO is hands down superior to any domestic mags. Unfortunately we just got the June(?) issue with the Audi R9 (production version of the Le Mans concept car) on the cover so it's going to be a long one month wait for the 'Ring issue!

Anyone who calls the ring too narrow doesn't know anything about it, it was made to be only 8 yards(I think) wide when it was built.

It seems an overseas subscription costs about 70€ for 12 issues. That's not too bad, considering one finnish automotive magazine costs 105€/year.
The real issue is the credit card payment, my parents are not too keen about it. Well, now I know what I want for christmas :D

But anyway, it's the july issue? Any pic of the cover, so I won't buy the wrong issue? :D

How can there already be an August issue? We're not even halfway through july :D:dunce:
I know, it's weird. Many magazines are about a month ahead, one I've even known to be two months. :odd:

Damn, I didn't notice that this thread was already started - I only got the new EVO today and in my haste I made a thread in the Auto News forum about the Donkervoort...oops...by the way, is the model than ran the 7:18:01 called the RS270 as stated above or the D8 RS - that's what it says in EVO, though the picture that's posted is exactly the same car?

I'm so confused. Is the Nurburgring article in that issue because that is what Barns & Noble has on there stands now here in the States.

Yep, look on the left hand side of the cover..."Nurburgring The Ultimate Ring Guide". Nick's lap in the M5 was pretty good, as was the test with the Zonda F, Carrera GT and F430

Hehe... too late, have that issue already, but it's a good read for anyone else who doesn't. The M5 around the Ring' with Nick is just great.

We just got the mag last week in Canada. Great article, it's a must read for any Ring fanatic.

I'm going to see if I can match or beat Heidfeld's GT4 laptime in the Opel. :D

I found it interesting that they alluded to parts of the GT4 'Ring being shortened. Kinda makes a mockery of all these real-world time comparisons.

Is GT4's 'Ring a shortened version?

Yes and no.

The present 'Ring includes the F1 track, I believe.

It does.

The GT4 configuration can be acheived if they move the barriers. They connect the F1 track to the Nordschleife for the races there because the pit/paddock facilities used in GT4 are inadequate for modern racing, and the F1 paddock is high-quality stuff (if it's good enough for Bernie, you know it's top-notch :)). The Grand Prix track is also more spectator-friendly.

I see what you mean now. I suppose they've used the version that people use for 'track days' since GT4 is mostly populated with road cars. Having said that, you might think that they would have the start/finish line along the back straight. I hope GT5 has a version including the GP loop, at least for the races.
