exactly how many cars are in the game?

Nobody seems to agree on this. I've read anywhere from 560 to the high 6's. Anyways, go to Pupik's site, he lists them all. I'd count them but I'm too lazy.

But really, there are quite a few. I'd say 600~630, but that's just my estimate from what I've seen. The volume of vehicles in GT2 does sound like a lot but in reality, there are many remakes of the same brand. There are perhaps 400 different frames. ;)

Since everyone is too lazy to count ;), I took the time to count all of the cars in pupik's car list: There is a total of 583 cars in the game.

Cool, now I don't have to do it. Good work Neon

I thought there were exactly 596?

The official list states exactley 596 cars in GT2, so I'm guessing theres either a few cars missing from Pupiks list or the official count was either taken before GT2 was finished and a few cars were removed, or theres more cars in the Japanese GT2 and Pupiks list doesn't include them.

My site says 603. However, that's not entirely accurate.

There's 2 cars noted as hidden in all versions:
Mercedes-Benz CLK Race Car
VW Polo 1.4 16V

One hidden car that's pretty much a duplicate (differs in title only), but hidden:
Shelby GT500 KR '68

Two cars that are duplicates (year is different), but hidden:
Toyota 2000GT (no year)
Shelby GT350 '67

There's some hidden Hondas that appear in the used lots of the Japanese versions (I put the title "Honda" in front of the ones that have an Acura with a similar name):
Integra SiR-G
Integra SiR-G '96
Honda Integra Type-R '98
Integra Type-R Spec '98
NSX '90
NSX Type R '92
Honda NSX Type S
Honda NSX Type S Zero

There's a few cars that have "Esso" sponsorphip in place of the Exxon logos:
Peugeot 206 rally car
Peugeot 406 sedan (R-mod differs)
Toyota GT-One '98 Racer
Toyota GT-One '99 Racer

And the hidden Vauxhalls (same as the 6 Opels).

Which makes for 613.

See, inasphinx, I told you. There is no 'official' number of cars, ask this question and you'll get a variety of answers. I'm happy with 603, just cuz I don't own a gameshark and got the North American version of the game.

BTW, what is a farcial aquatic ceremony, anyways?

"...Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony...": (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) Anyway, it seemed to fit my avatar.

As for truly unique cars, not duplicates, separate cars that actually drive, respond, brake, and accelerate unique from one another...there's probably closer to 400 or so. There's 6 JGTC GT-R's, 4 JGTC Supras, 5 JGTC NSX's, 2 GT-One Racers, 4 AE86's, 6 R32's, 6 R33's, 4 Honda Beats, 4 del Sols, 20 Imprezas, 20 Silvias/240SX's, and 15 or so Evos. You could trim down quite a number of these virtually duplicate cars and not miss much.

Yeah that was a disappointmenmt in GT2. The number of cars that are just different models but have virtually the same stats. That and the fact that only the Japanse companies had 2nd hand models to buy from.

Yeah! Wouldn't it be cool to go searching a used car lot for that rare Cuda? Or that ancient Lotus 2-seater? It's kinda stupid when you can just go and buy a Plymouth Superbird with a Hemi engine in it any ol' time you feel like it. They only made a handful of these cars.

I purposely don't pay attention to FAQs that tell you when you're gonna find the rare Japanese cars, just because I think it ruins the mystery.

Supposedly, this is a feature built into GT4, regardless of manufacturer. But don't quote me, as I don't have the game, and don't want to spoil it for myself.

That would be so rad! They have to be doing something great for GT4....it's taken so long for them to get it out, and I heard they axed online racing as well as a feature that would let you trade cars on eBay!.

Yah, I like Holy Grail. Favorite scene is the Knights who say Knee! I think that's the right movie...

I always thought that GT4 online bidding and trading cars was a neat idea. After all, most people don't want that <insert crap car name here> after they've run the manufacturer race in it, but someone else could have bought it, cheaper. And then cars could have a permanent miles counter on them that alters performance, so that tacky old, but rare cars wouldn't sell for as much. Too bad there's no online support, but what really bugs me is the lack of 2-player memory card battles. 👎 :indiff: :ouch:

Can I just get clarification, I know this isn't the right place but still...

GT 4 has lost the online racing, online bidding and selling of cars and 2 palyer memory card battles? They better have something good up the sleave to surprise me or I'm going to be mad.:ouch: Still they have a lot of cars from a lot of different manufactuers and it seems that some of the cars that I own in GT will be available in GT 4. Nope, I'm still mad.:ouch:

More importantly, who cares?

Seeing as your garage only holds 100 cars, its pointless knowing exactly how many cars there are, as your garage can't fit them all in.

All you need is 7 memory cards and you can have them all! :)
Last time I looked a PS1 memory card was only $ 5.00 Aus.

Who on earth wants every car in the game? I've had cars erased twice, so I've gone through all the American cars and most of the international oddballs. I ever bought and tuned the entire set of Evos. But I'm not about to collectioneer every Skyline, no Si-R, just the interesting ones like the '71, the R30, Silhouette, GT500s. I've collected all the GT300 and GT500 cars, for instance, but I don't use them much as a whole.

And don't worry, although a lot of the good stuff in GT4 got axed (you'd better get out from under your rock and view the GT4 board), there's a ton of great things, even unexpected stuff, like 1080i resolution. ;) Not exactle your old dusty GT2 anymore.
