Example video of effects GT5 NEEDS

Just watch this clip from Sega Rally Revo. Notice the dynamics of the mud flinging up all over the car, and the tire marks and ruts left in the road. I want this same effect with grass as well, but it looks just beautiful. This is what I've been talking about for ages. The GT series needs this!

Yes, deninitely someting for rally mode, but I'd rather stuff like AI and the like finished first.

the problem is, fxscreamer, that PD most likely maxed the game out at 60fps with the effects it already has. HDR lighting, detailed exteriors and interiors etc

That leaves little left over for effects like real time mud and tire marks, ruts in the road etc

if you look at that sega rally game you can see that in order to achieve real time mud, tire marks, ruts in the mud etc they had to cut out of other things.

example being that the game will probably only be 720p, or it wont have the detail of the cars GT has or the number of cars on track as GT (16)

I agree with you. As much as I would like to see all of that in GT5, but truthly you cant do it. It is to much to program, even for a PS3, at least I think it is anyway!

To have those ruts you need a high-poly road. If Polyphony cuts down on track side detail, they could do it with the cars they have.

However, it'd be much easier to pull a MotorStorm and do "fake" ruts with parallax mapping.

Textured road would be cool, though. I'm sick of watching that spotted thing.

Having to choose, I'd pick more detailed cars and sceneries over tyre marks and mud/water/whatever effects any day.

It'd be neat to have a track (dirt oval, especially) that changes as the race goes on. I've seen dirt actually pick up rubber off tires, and start to look like asphalt!! Imagine having the choice of ducking to the inside or riding the Cushion...

I would like tire marks, but i think we should be able to block brakes for that. I don't want them only for drifting.
