I'm trying to convince my mum to cough up some cash for me to put towards a car. I need excuses why these cars are better than some old corolla or excel (apart from speed coz thats whay she doesn't want me getting one.

Nissan Skyline GTS25 (R32)
Nissan Silvia/180SX (S13)
Mazda RX7 (SII/SIII)
Toyota Supra Non-Turbo (MkII)
Holden Calais 6 or 8 (VK)
Datsun 280ZX

Handling. Tell here that they all turn on a dime, so you won't get understeer and plant it into a wall, or go off to say hello to a tree.

But she'll probably say that I shouldn't be going fast enough to worry about over/understeer, although it could be good in an emergency

There's no such thing as "too fast". Tell her that you could be doing 50 and the thing may get understeer/oversteer.

tell her that these cars are safer than a little buz box and that they will hold their resale value more as well.

1. Good handling.
2. Good resale value.
3. Nice looks.
4. Good performance.
5. Value for money.
6. Lasts long.
7. Rarely gives problems.
8. Very safe.

Heh. Thats all I can think now .

The cars will help you get to the place you wanna get to safer?
Also..... driving these cars will some people "like" you, because alot of social status is determined by the car a person drives... ;)

You also have to look into the amount of work you have to put into each of those cars. I am assuming of course you are looking at used cars. If that is the fact you also have to expect to put in a significant amount of money to get them running properly.

Also count on expensive repairs. You'd be much better off getting an inexpensive new car with a warrantee. Then you could save your money up and buy your own toy.

Well all of these cars are definately safer than the 65 Valiant my Grandparents are giving me although I have plans for the Val, Body's pretty straight, my cousin and I put a new clutch in recently It's got the original 225 Six in it with only 88,000miles on it (140,000km+), the only mod under the bonnet is a Holden carby and a set of genie extractors. Maybe I could restore it when i've got the spare cash.

Shweet. I'm a pretty big fan of the Valiant, my favourite engine is the 245 and 265.

Tell her that none of them are boring so you will never have problems falling asleep at the wheel (especially if u get a manual...which all real sports cars should have). Ditto on the resale value. Used corollas are the cheapest things around.

Yeah, I'm thinking of saving $4500 for a 265 Hemi 'performer special' with race prepared head...300kW (410hp) from a six, capable of burning off many a WRX or SS at the lights...until fourth gear when they just fly past.

HEMI PERFORMANCE NSW states that with the right setup in a charger the 265 performer special will run high 12's.

Some of the DODGE V8's look pretty tempting (426 Hemi, 440 Magnum) but cost an arm and a leg, have too much torque for the chassis and suck down the fuel.

Off to the Automotive > Cars in General forum with you my son!

What forum was it in, my father?

[I don't actually care, but I couldn't let the 'my father' line go by.]
