Extensive engine break-in research

Ok so I've heard alot of people say alot of different things about engine break-in in GT5
Now not only have I answered it for myself I hope all of you with doubts and all of you with "OCD" will read this because it took me 1,000 miles of A-spec milage to find out

So here goes...
I bought 4 identical Nissan GT-R Spec V '09's in different colours (to help me)
And here is what I did with them
I left each car completly standard (no mods, body kits or tyres)
then ...
I drove each of these cars for 250 miles, I did oil changes on 2 but not the other2 and drove them in different manners
2 cars where thrashed (bouncing of rev limiter, changing down early etc)
Then took the other 2 (1 thrashed,1 gentle) straight to the track
2 where driven gentle (as you would with a real new car, not exeeding 4000rpm etc)

After each car had done 250 miles I changed the oil and here are the results...

(white GT-R) oil change + thrashed
start BHP - 502
after 250 miles BHP- 493
after oil change BHP- 517

(black GT-R) no oil change + thrashed
start BHP - 478
after 250 miles BHP- 493
after oil change BHP- 517

(grey GT-R) oil change + gentle
start BHP - 502
after 250 miles BHP- 493
after oil change BHP- 517

(red GT-R) no oil change + gentle
start BHP - 478
after 250 miles BHP- 493
after oil change BHP- 517

So there you go, changing your oil before driving gives you an initial boost but after break-in and its "first service" there is no difference

And the way you treat your new ride during that break-in duration has no effect on the cars "power gain"

I also choose the GT-R because it is to my understanding that these enginges are hand built and no 2 cars will ever have the same BHP so if PD where to get really ANAL about this sort of thing surley this would have been the car they would have done it with ?

Hope this helps
Pete

Also the first 2 people to reply to this thread and send a friend request to psn- sneakypete123 can have 1 of the GT-R's that was used for this experiment

Nah

I don't really need the car, but I applaud you for dong the test. The only other question that I have about engine break in is what is the true mileage number and is it the same on all cars?

I have heard 185 miles and 200+.

On each of the cars I've tested its been within a mile
I dont know about different models of cars and to tell you the truth theres no way im going to do this on any other models in GT5, picking the GT-R wasnt a random choice as I stated at the end of the OP

One thing I can say that beforfe the car reached 250 miles the HP was dropping so break in is less than 250 miles
I picked 250 miles because I hear people say 200, 230, 270 miles so i went for a happy medium

The "give-away" bit was more to do with if there is anybody who doubts this was done they could recive the car, verify the milage and BHP

From what I've heard and tested it's between 180 and 190 miles for all cars (I think mygranturismo.net goes as precise as saying 186.2 miles, which I think is probably correct). This doesn't include any miles driven in the speed test or done in online free run, as well as if you leave a race before the finish online.

I entered cars in two tuning competitions now at over 185 miles, but short of 200 miles and the testers said that my cars were still gaining power.

Please try and answer this oddball, When th TC pack came out i bought it on main account I also bought the pack for 2 other accounts< this was before PD said they woiuld resolve DLC with the family pack, I state this because it might be relelvant.
Car here in question is GT-R35 TC.
Main acc 1st car to be fully tuned and has covered 300+ miles has 862 bhp.
Both other accounts same tuning and setup but there pushing 897 bhp.
Now whatever I do I cannot get the 1st car up to the same level as the rest.

I have done oil changes (several) and checked and rechecked dozens of times to see if maybe an exhaust of something has been degraded but cannot find the answer.

Over my 3 accounts I have several of these cars and only that very first one suffers this problem.

Any ideas fellas ?

@Mark,

Check to see that the Titanium exhaust is installed on the original one. For some reason the titanium exhaust is purchased with the car, but some of the originals need you to check the box to have it installed.

Thanks for your reply but as you can see from my previous post i have checked this several times< its most odd.

1. Check power limiter.
2. Double check that all tuning is performed.
3. Let your BOB drive it some races, then change the oil. I have seen power drop dramtically after thrashing my BMW 135i (doing 1st gear donuts for 5 minutes straight) It came back after some miles of normal driving and an oil change).

Its different for different cars, I drove my mclaren 300km to reach full break but I drove my AZ 1 500km to reach 151 HP when its max is supposed to be 148 so it depends

The power has never dropped, it won't break in at all, cannot do oil channge as states doesn't need it. Please read my 1st post, I've checked every several times and I mean more than a dozen times now. I'm. This must be a glitch of some kind as I've purchased several more from dealers and theyall have broken in fine.
