Here's the way I see, and if I sound harsh - tough 🤬.

If you use any aids to assist you whether it be in real life or a damn video game, that's solely your choice, your prerogative, and most importantly your choice. Take me for example, I don't use any aids other than ABS in any racing game that I play. Why? I don't like pumping brakes. Got a problem with that? Tough 🤬.

I also enable the racing line on tracks I don't know well enough, so I can learn them quicker and far more sufficiently than not knowing where to brake, how hard to brake, and when to get back on the accelerator. All of this possibly leading to lackluster performance because I haven't spent enough time practicing the old-fashioned way. Again, if there's a problem with that because (insert lame excuse here) tough 🤬.

This is pretty much where I stand on the issue.

My saying is "unless you plan on buying me my copy of the game, don't tell me how to play it and I won't tell you how to play it".

sup with the elitist attitude here?

not everyone is as good as you guys. i use ABS and traction control on low. i set the line to 'corners only' although I would only really prefer it to be set to 'brakes only'.

i would be happy to turn it off if there was a brake marker like in Gran Turismo games. it warns me to downshift and thus brake. this game doesn't and i don't plan on spending 10 hours just to learn a track.

I have a tip for you. (Actually I have two, use capitals to avoid the mods wrath)

Go to a TT on Melbourne without the racing line. You will notice all the correct braking distances are almost always next to the 100m sign. Learn the track without the line and apply what you learnt about brake markers to other tracks. For instance I use a blue tent and a bump in the road at China for a braking marker.

OT: I use pit lane limiter and the pit box aid as I simply can't be arsed doing it manually. All other aids are off, manual transmission.

1. lt's my game , and my time . l will use assists as l see fit.
2. lf my learning curve isn't as steep as yours , too damn bad.
3 . l wouldn't dream of trying to tell someone how to play , you play you're way , l'll play my way .
Ok mini rant over , back to the track , lines and all .

+1

And at the end of the day, it's a VIDEO GAME.

I play games to have fun, not to tear my pieces of my hair off. Haha.

I don’t know what all the controversy is all about, I don’t think I’m in the minority of all gamers when I say that I need to use assets in order to understand the different tracks. When I raced my road race bike at Infineon they made me take an intro course, they stressed the importance of the line for the track. We spent ¾ of the day making sure everyone knew the line and rode only on the line, each track has its own line and when it’s burned into my memory I might decide to reduce it or even eliminate it all together. A lot of the comments I read glow of how you get that fulfilling feeling of how it’s so pure and it's better going bare back, well all that tells me is that more than likely you already know the track.

As far as the other assets go, I GD well guarantee you if try to TT Singapore and try to break into the top ten on the world leader board you better have the assets on, that’s how that game is played. I’m not trying to hide anything w/ my use of assets and when the forum starts to race this game in a league I’ll conform to the rules, but for right now I’m “ ASSET MAN “ lol.

^ Do you mean assist?

Does this game reward you for not using them?

Can you actually post faster laps without asset's, I mean assists lol.

I understand where your coming from w/ the more main stream reference to assisting your driving short falls. But with me they were an asset. I normally don’t drive w/ any assistance, GT5p, SHIFT, or what ever, but this is the first rear engine car I have ever cyber driven and I can’t drift the thing when it hangs out so I looked at the help that the game gave me as an asset. Helen Keller needed assistance.

OT but thank you for giving me the mental image of Helen Keller driving an F-1 car. 👍

idk, i need it investigate. In GTP if you had assistants on, your car was slower, period. This game seems like if you have them on you have an advantage? Especially i an online game.

It should be an advantage - hence why it's banned in F1!

TC and ABS on most, mass production cars (even sports cars) is too intrusive. But F1 teams developed it, so that it's a lot faster (the ABS computer could compensate faster than the human brain could) as could the traction control systems.

As already touched on by a few, isn't this all really about FUN??

Do what makes the game more enjoyable for you. If I had to drive in the DAMN rain with no ABS, I would would never play this godforsaken game again:banghead:

I'm fairly new to racing games, and completely new to F1. Despite this, I went straight to cockpit view as I am only interested in the experience.

Had the racing line active when I started, but after a few weekends in career mode, I realized that I was missing a lot of other visual cues. Turn off the racing line and you'll see that the track designers, have provided the pilots with multitudes of visual markers. Additionally, if you already know the principals of apexing, you will feel the turn much more organically (forgive me, I'm sorta Californian) and find the true fastest way through a turn.

Of course if any of you bother to look up my only paltry TT time posted (Korea), you can tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. In my defense, I know how to drive, but I don't have a clue about car setup.

See you in the paddock,
-Christopher
