The "nations" helmets are gone. In their place are twenty-odd custom designs, plus Anthony Davidson's helmet. There are no other real-life helmets (you can't race with Senna's lid, for instance). Some of them are really good, too. I use helmet #2 myself.

Urgh I hate this too! There is a definite difference and yet they get mixed into F1 games all the time... However I would prefer those over the nations helmets from 2010 any day. How inventive is it to wrap a nations flag over a helmet, then ONLY offer those, and about 6 with just 1 colour....
I have my copy but not played it yet, but from all of the pictures being posted I think the new designs look really cool, hoping for something similar to my own design like I have in GT5 (after many seasonals trying to find it!).

I actually prefer the nations helmets, as a pride in your county type thing. I always liked the Stars and Bars on the lid.
Ummm..when were you able to make your own design on a helmet in GT5? Did I miss that update, since I dont play anymore?

Changed for my home race, but it was garish to have all season! Plus it rarely matches the car I'm in....
You can't, I made a design on photoshop years ago. I then found a helmet by winning them that represented this design as close as possible (last update or so they introduced the ability to win helmets and suits. You can then apply them individually through GT Life to your driver!).

I played when they the helmet and racing suits winnable, but I guess you threw me off stating your own design. Making your own design sounds like a custom helmet nobody else has.

Crap ones. Why the hell don't Codemasters just give us a helmet creator, even a simple one like pick a base colour for the helmet and have 20 or so preset designs which you can choose a maximum of 3 or 4 layers to put onto the helmet and pick a colour for each? So simple and so much better or even the preset helmets they have and the ability to change the colours?

On PC, it is. Modding is a great thing.
Yet, there's one that's almost right. I'm using it, it's #13.
As Mr. S mentioned, I have a helmet mod. I'm actually about to start another thread for my career w/100% races. You'll get to see the helmet in the videos.
