I have a few questions. I just started racing full manual on a tr500 f1 wheel setup. I noticed that it is wayyy more fun but you can't commit a single mistake, especially if you are driving without ABS. I won't mind pay the dues practicing if that's more immersive in the end.

Now I notice that when coming out of a curve if you step on the throttle your car will spin, I finally gradually step for speed.

1. Should ABS be on? Will it take away from the realism?
2. Is there any assistance that should be on for added realism?
3. Please post ANY tips for newbies like me who wants to go full manual:
- Breaks (when to press, how hard, etc)
- Throttle (when to step hard, etc)
- Curves (how fast can you come in, etc)

1. Playing with ABS will be easier but will take away from the realism. Also, playing with ABS for some time and then switching it off is hard to get used too.
2. For the most realism, play with all assists off.
3. Don't break too hard, it (obviously) locks up the brakes. Also coming onto the throttle to hard and fast really depends on transmission setup. Check French Racing Setups by Mr. S.

Keep in mind, you can still enable up to 4 flashbacks when you're just starting to play without aids. That way you don't have to sacrifice the whole race because of a single mistake.

F1 cars do NOT have ABS systems, so it's best to turn ABS off if you want it to be realistic.

2. Is there any assistance that should be on for added realism?

No. Set the difficulty to "Expert" instead of setting custom driving assists, that'll make it as "realistic" as possible.

- Braking: don't step on the brake and leave your foot on there. Lift it and push the brake again, short enough not to lock the brake discs but long enough to decelerate the car ahead of the apex. Rinse and repeat.
- Accelerating: don't put the pedal to the metal all the time, especially when accelerating out of corners and at the start. Gradually improve the acceleration.
- Cornering: I'd say it's best to start a time trial and set a quick lap using your usual assists. That way you'll have a ghost car in front of you. You can disable driving aids afterwards, so that you can try to keep up with the ghost car without them. Time trial also means that you can't blow up your engine by shifting too early or down to 2nd gear in the middle of the back straight.

Good advice re: time trial and ghost car.

Also remember your brake settings play a role too.

I use 52% front, 48% rear and set to High with standard brake size. Sometimes I am only tapping the brakesor gradual application.

The faster/qiucker drivers online are the ones who usually can brake the best/out brake, in my opinion.

I also like to be able to lock up the wheels to avoid a crash/punter

Thanks for the tips and the link. Mr S did an amazing thread! How do I enable flash backs? Is it 4 per race or per career? I have restarted a few races.... It is night and day driving full manual. I won't ever go back!

I actually started time trial and I was following my gost car (but the full manual time) so I wouldn't get too frustrated.

It's 4 per session.

4 in practice 1
4 in practice 2
4 in practice 3
4 in Q1
4 in Q2
4 in Q3
4 in the Race

You can turn on flashbacks in the difficulty settings menu. You can chose from any number from 0 to 4. To use them: When you crash you can enter the replay mode and use the flashback. There's a menu in the bottom right corner telling you how many you have left and what button to press (Square on PS3, I don't know what it is on Xbox).

Hope that helps :)
