Im looking to build a proper F1 seating postion cockpit simulator.Anyone have any ideas they would like to share.

ISR member DaveKirkman's F1 rig posted on ISR early this year might be good reference.

He actually works for Williams as an engineer, and used a real F1 seat for this rig:

GTP member nicka117 also has a great tutorial for making a custom-molded F1 style seat on this thread.

WOW! That's awesome!I would love to have a rig like that.Dont have the budget for something that cool.im thinking about using one of Those rocker gaming chairs and building something around that.Has anyone used a rocker gaming chair to make a cockpit?

You know, I actually made one for a friend some years ago using a Rocker Chair. It was a pretty simple wood frame but it worked fine! don't have any pictures though...

For an f1/single seater style cockpit look at kart seats, they are very supportive and comfortable (as long as you get the right size) and thin foam padding can be added for extra comfort if required. Price range is whatever you want to pay from this:

I set about making an f1 seating position cockpit quite some time ago, but never really got past the prototype / test position model as I decided to change to a GT racing based cockpit...

Here is a pic of the formula position cockpit with kart seat I knocked up...bare in mind it is a very rough proto and was only made to determine angles etc...but you get the idea...

In the short time I tested this it worked very well, although the kart seat ideally needs supporting from the sides at the rear (as in a real kart, google images will help) and I would have lifted the pedals higher for a true feet in the air f1 position. Even though the kart seat doesn't look very supportive at the back it really is as it comes up to just below the shoulder blades. I would also add a headrest if I were to construct a proper cockpit in this style...

Hope this gives you a few ideas :)
