Does anyone know the status of the F1 game franchise and is there any chance it will be rolled up into Gran Turismo too?

PS. I'd like to believe that my wish of WRC being included in GT5 caught someone's attention:

As long as GT5 has support for the Clutch pedal, some changing day / night and real time weather effects… I believe they now have working headlights as shown by the spotlights on the new GTR in the GT5 Prologue B movie…if they scratch the F1 game altogether and scratch the WRC game and use the licenses in Gran Turismo that would make GT the “Real driving simulator”.

We all know deep down that this is going to be the best racing game for any platform. Thankyou Kazanouri and Polyphony and Sony.

Codemasters has it and is releasing a game next year.

Also, that article is from 2007, it is VERY old.

I know the article is old, but back then I made a comment that they should scratch the WRC game and make it part of Gran Turismo and finally my wish has come true...

Bummer that Sony lost the F1 license :(

theres no official word that sony or PD has the WRC or Nascar license, to my knowledge at least. but they are able to implement the vehicles into the game as long as they have the rights from the owners of the vehicles themselves. thats why we see the Ferarri F2007 in GT5P even though PD dosnt have the F1 license. for all we know that could be what we are seeing here. i believe Codemasters still has the WRC license seeing as they are still making Dirt 2.

Well I don't think there is an F1 logo in GT5P, however there is both the NASCAR and WRC logo in the clip.

^ That's what I was going to say. While this may not be an exclusive license, it does seem that at the very least we're going to get some microcosm of a season of both in GT5. Maybe it'll be like something from GT3 where you have a series of 12-20 races as a mini-season. Or maybe more. It's hard to say at this point.

true but i would just like to here from at least nascar who received the license. i know iracing became the official series of nascar but they still havnt said who has gotten the game license. and with the FIA i could have sworn gave codies the license unless that licensed expired and nobody noticed. oh well we may never know.

Nope, Codemasters does not have the WRC license, only the cars and even then, they only seem to have some made up liveries mixed with real ones all the while (if memory serves me correct) the publisher that originally had the license scrapped it. As for NASCAR, its been well known that EA's rights to the license have expired. Also, the trailer clearly showed both licensed names and GT wouldn't be showing that if they didn't have permission, would they?

I think a F1 license is much too expensive... It´s better when they use that money to get more car manufacterers like Lamborghini and Porsche...

Or maybe more original racing tracks... I would love to see Istanbul GP course and some other F1 GP courses...

It´s ok if they simulate an F1 season but without original licence for me...

The 2005 e3 trailer had F1 cars in it... but you can't tell if they're real ones... or PD specials!

They were PD specials, I dissected that trailier and looked at them closely. None of them were real F1 cars.

Ah cool - cheers for the info...

I did notice that they did look a bit different from each other (not just colours)... but I could be wrong?!

The only real F1 cars your going to see in GT5 are Ferrari's because they have the licence, all the others will be PD F1 cars. However if we get custom paintjobs and a vinyl editior we could most likely re-create real team liveries.

Got damn a livery editor would be very nice... Also if you can create your own Racing seasons... so you can choose 18 tracks for a season and simulate an F1 championship...

I´m getting excited when I think about all the great possibilitys we CAN get with GT5 but let´s hope we get it...

I'm just hoping that we get F1 in some form or another, whether it be the real f1 cars (Seems unlikely), or PD's own (Which I'd be more than happy with).

How do you know that they don't have any other licences?

Also - we only know that they have the licence for the F1 car from 2007 (The championship winning car)...

They have McLaren cars in the game - why not have their F1's in?

They have Renault cars in the game - why not have their F1's in?

They have BMW cars in the game - why not have their F1's in?

They have Toyota cars in the game - why not have their F1's in?

They have Honda cars in the game - why not have their F1's in?

Less likely are the ones that aren't manufacturers (red bull, brawn (see Honda), toro rosso (Ferrari engine tho), Force India)

I can't see ANY cars from this year getting into the game though.

What makes you think that? Having a F1 car in a game isn't restricted to having the F1 license. Renault, BMW, Honda, Toyota and Mclaren could easily have their cars in just by the permission of the manufacterers themselves.

They certainly need more F1 cars then just Ferrari's, a full grid of 16 Ferraris will get old, quick

If they can get Nascar they should get F1 too. It's only fair. Not to mention they could put the V10 cars in and that would be loads of fun to drive.

If your reffering to the license, that impossible as Codemasters has it.

There is no guarantee that F1 will exist as we know next year with the proposed buget caps. Who knows what we might get as a result, DLC next year of whatever F1 morphs into!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but one of the reason we have a 2007’s F1 car might well be related to the fact no other company was developing a licensed game for that particular season. It makes sense to include realistic competitors for that particular car in the full game (unless this was a unique and special gift ment to celebrate the addition of Ferrari to the serie), and I would be surprised if Polyphony didn’t managed to get other constructors agreements.

Hope these guys will cool off, talk like civil and responsible people, and manage a compromise that will fit all the parties, newcomers included. (sorry for off topic)
