I know, I know, "pop punk sucks," but there is something different about this band I think. They don't sound like other bands on the radio today. They just recently got on the radio too. Their first big hit was "Sugar We're Goin Down" followed by "Dance, Dance." Both of these are from their latest album "From Under The Cork Tree." If you havn't heard of this band, I suggest you check out their site at www.falloutboyrock.com

👍

I love Fall Out Boy. They are awesome. I got From Under The Cork Tree when it was released, and I still listen to it reguraly (mostly while driving) They do sound a bit different from other bands today. I am getting tired of "Sugar, Were going Down" being played on the radio every other song, but yeah.. they're still good.

I've probably listened to Take This To Your Grave and From Under The Cork Tree about 25 times a piece or more. I love this band.

I bought this yesterday at Hollister while I was shopping. Good ****, get it if you don't have it, and buy the Take This to Your Grave if you don't have that either...

I think I am possibly the only person who does not care for Fall Out Boy out of anyone I know. It's just not my kind of music I guess, but the lead singers voice bugs me for some reason.

I like Fall Out Boy, though I have yet to pick up their album. And will someone fill me in on why so many people hate pop-punk? I can't stand the hordes of people who say things like "ZOMG!!!11 green day r selloutz!!!" or "'bout time blink 182 broke up, they sucked azz!" Shut the hell up people. Green Day owns you.

I guess they just don't like the sound of it. The people that usualy say that are either "h4rdc0r3" or purists (which is understandable to a point), or they dont listen to any form of rock at all (i.e. "gangstas").

I don't hate the bands because they're sellouts, I hate them because it all begins to sound the same after a while. I used to like Green Day, and there was a time in my life when Dookie was one of my favorite albums, but when I listen to it now, it's just not the same. I've given their other albums a listen, and they just continually get worse in my eyes. If you don't want to jam pencils into your ears every time you hear that awful, overplayed "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" I commend you. So basically, I don't care if they sold out, they just plain suck.

So no, HondaRacer, Green Day does not own me.

As for Fallout Boy I've heard quite a few of their songs over at my friends place, and it doesn't sound too different from the rest of the genre to me.

Trust me, the majority (not all) of pop punk bands nowadays are just glorified boy-bands who can (barely) play instruments. Their songs and albums sell on catchiness, which isn't always bad, but doesn't work out too well for the long run. Most of the pop-punk bands like Fallout Boy will be forgotten in 10 years, they're nothing special.
And no, ITR, I'm not too "hardcore" for pop-punk, I used to be a fan of the genre, I used to be a fan of punk too, but I just realized how repetitive it all is. Real punk is dead.

To each his own though, I just wanted to clear a few things up.

Glad to see you not blow your lid like some other people.

Hey, like you said, to each his own. What kind of music are you into?

I'm all over the place in terms of music that I listen to. Lately some of my favorites have included: Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, CCR, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Allman Brothers, and ZZ Top as far as classic rock goes.

For hip-hop/rap, I like: Jurassic 5, The Pharcyde, Beastie Boys...etc.

As for more current music: Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In...

I really enjoy blues and jazz, too.

So yeah, a very brief list, I listen to a lot.

It's good to be open to a lot of different kinds of music. It's a shame to see people get so caught up in one kind, to fit some kind of "scene" or subculture. I think the more varied your tastes are, the better.

The whole "emo" scene/subculture is just an example of how people listen to certain music to conform to an image. There's no variety - it's the same three or four chords, the same whiney teenage voice, the same screaming, the same angsty lyrics. It's just a trend, and we'll see which bands are standing when it's over.

I've been listening to Fall Out Boy for a long time now, way before they signed on Island, and while there's nothing really wrong with From Under The Cork Tree, I still prefer Take This To Your Grave.

What really puts them above the other bands of the genre, imo, is their live show. I've seen them twice and both times, they would come on during the other bands' songs to sing along, or have the other bands' members come on to sing for some of their more popular stuff. The first time I saw them back in April, I think they had about 12 people on stage for their last song 👍.

I understand that a lot of people see the whole "emo" thing as some sort of passing fad, but what really irks me is that there's people who are unfairly grouped as some of those sheepish me-too'ers because they go to, say, a FOB show. When I went last month, the majority of the crowd was ditzy little blonde girls of maybe 14 years of age, with random lyrics scribbled on their shirts from the new album. Then, when anything other than the two singles were played, they didn't know a word.

I hate to sound so clichéd, but it really is those damned MTV groups of people who are ruining it. Or the people who go from band to band based on their singles.

And there's a perfect example of a naysayer who goes just by what they've heard on the radio. To say that every band of the genre follows the same basic blueprint is like saying classic rock is all identical. I'm not denying there's a bunch of pretty anonymous cookie-cutter bands in the genre, but that applies to every genre.

I've also been following them for quite some time. I think I got TTTYG a few months after its initial release. 👍

I missed out on a chance to see FOB at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando because I couldn't find anyone else to go with me. :(

Not really. I've got tons of playlists (I'm in college, they share them) which have CD's and CD's of the emo genre - Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is..., Story of the Year, Underoath, Armor for Sleep, Cartel; I've heard a lot.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that they don't play this kind of music on the radio, though it is pumped through "MTV U" 24/7.

I've heard FOB, Story Of The Year, and Armor For Sleep on a local rock station here in Florida.

I like Armor For Sleep, too. My favorite song is Basement Ghosts. Very cool guitar there.

Story Of The Year, I'm not a real fan. I like basically their popular songs.

Ahh :). Perhaps it's different down there then, up here all but Cartel are played fairly often on the radio, though the list is cut down considerably when it comes to videos. Though, I generally don't watch music video stations anyways.

One thing I won't ever get are some of the awful screamo things. Poison The Well, Everytime I Die, Shai Halud, the all sound really, really bad to my ears. I'm a reasonable fan of Alexisonfire despite them being classed "screamo", because they can do things other than scream, and they're pretty good with their instruments, which is more than I can say about the above-mentioned bands. There's actually a difference to the songs when you move through them on the album ;).

ITR, you missed out? Doh :(
