So... I figured I might as well make one.

First off, I bought 3 lengths of 20x20mm, 4mm width steel box section - 2.2 metres per length - for around £12.

Second, I got a friendly local to come weld it up to a design I'd come up with for the cost of one lasagne:

Mmm, functional. So the next step is to put on all the mountings for the pedals, wheel and gear selector:

And decorate it a bit:

And then bolt it up to my chair in the PC room:

Smashing!

All in the total cost was:
Steel box section - £12
Wood (9mm ply used) - £10
Fixings - £5

And now I just need to practice GT5P...

I would have been very disappointed if it hadn't been indigo...

Looks cool though. I can't even make any cockpit, let alone a cheap-ass one.

Also, that seat: Renault?

It's good when cheap-ass, doesn't equivalent to crap.
Nice stencil work too .👍

Ford Granada Scorpio. It's a big, swishy hunk of leather and... 6 way adjustable... with electricity!

Pfft. All you need is imagination and a friend with a Mig welder and an angle grinder willing to spend a couple hours fabricating it in exchange for food.

We had just enough left over bits from my initial design that Venari quickly sketched up a gear selector stand. RHD, natch :D

Famine that looks bloody awesome. 👍

Love the GTPlanet logo at the front of the mounting brackets, very stylish. How long did that take to do all up??

And you didn't add the cost of a lasagna into your pricings. :P

The welding/grinding was 3 hours or so - including me learning how to weld. The decoration has taken me much of the week on and off - the GTPlanet logo in particular is a PIG to stencil! About an hour to drill and mount all the wood.

I also cut up a couple of school-grade erasers - those white rectangular things - and superglued them under the base as feet. Prevents the metal getting scratched, or scratching the floor.

Cool looking rig, but the gear shift is on the wrong side! And i was expecting a full indigo paint job!:sly: Okay where did you come up with the measurement, for everything?

Famine... I don't like it!!

I love it, looks good I really like how you put it together :)..... Have you thought about inverting your pedals as that will allow you more leg room in the cockpit. Btw you must have a really heavy azz dog..lol

How tall is it in total? I want to build one myself but the seat I will be using is the sofa under my bed and it may not be tall enough for me. I've got to say great work for the cost of £27 and a lasagne

Also where did you get the parts for it?

The gearshift is on the proper side for people that live in Yorkshire England.

Famine, I was expecting something slightly more extravagant with more angles and lots more parts to it. This is almost disappointing. Is it rigid at least? Looks like it might be wobbly if you got violent with it.

How tall is it in total?

The highest part of the rig itself is 55cm from the floor. The wheel adds its own height onto that, but I haven't got round to measuring it.

B&Q. The box section is in the curtain-rail aisle, for some reason.

Nice Cockpit setup,
Too bad the Wheel wasnt included in the price of £27 👍

Not to mention the TV, speakers or PS3.

Heh, I have limited funds. I might build upon it in the future but it's fit for purpose. I'm not an especially violent driver anyway, but it holds up as well as a Playseat rig does.

Are we talking microwave, home-made or store-bought lasagne?

Homemade FTW.

How many UKGTP participants do you normally have? £27 x ? = ? + a lot of lasagnas! :D

Long time listener first time caller.....

Awesome, I love it! Looks so much better than I imagined a welded tube contraption would look.

Haha. Great minds must think alike because I was just drawing up some sketches of what mine is going to look like, and they look identical to yours (except for the shifter stand-I have a DFGT not a G25) :)

What a great setup. This is something I can sell to the missus. Now all I have to do is get the other stuff in the pic. LOL. ? Does the floorboard have support underneath?

Wait, you put a GTPlanet sticker on the front, which is facing the wall?

Nice job though, cant tell it was even cheap.

Looks great Famine. Simple design, but it looks very ergonomic. 👍

Works nicely too - I've started a fresh GT5P save and I've done up to all but two events in Class B, all gold :D

No - I masked and sprayed it on. :D

That looks great. 👍

Are those dog prints in your cement?

They are - but not from my dog (who can be just about seen in the 4th picture). The garage was built at some point in the 80s and I guess the homeowner had a dog at the time :D

So, are you actually going to use your wheel now? It'll probably have seized up through lack of use...

It got a gentle workout every 6 months to keep it all going nicely.

Bit of a bugger you can't use it for Burnout Paradise, mind.
