When I was researching The Fanatec CSL wheel stand I couldn't find much information anywhere so I thought I would post my thoughts here.
Last Sunday I ordered the Fanatec CSL wheel stand from Fanatec's North American storefront. The stand itself was $90 and shipping was $30. It should have arrived the following Tuesday but FedEx made a mistake.
What sold me on the stand was the price and the fact that it can be used with several different wheels. My G27 is getting old so it is nice to have options if and when it dies.
Before I ordered I was concerned about the quality of the parts. I was also concerned that it wouldn't be heavy enough and tip over like the foldable stand I was using. All of those concerns disappeared once I started removing the parts from the box. All of the plates are 1/8" steel. This is a really nice stand for the money.
After I finished assembling the stand I fired up GT6, hopped in a Nascar and headed to Daytona. The stability is great, the wheel felt totally different and it even sounded different. I then hopped in another car and headed to Cape Ring Periphery. The stand was rock solid. I should have bought or made a stand a long time ago.
Here are a couple of pics. I will trim the wire ties which weren't included once I'm happy with the wiring.
Pros:
1. $90 for a wheel stand is a great price.
2. Quality parts
3. Fast and easy assembly.
4. Compatible with many different wheels.
5. It came with all bolts and tools needed to mount the Logitech G27 wheel, pedals and shifter.
6. Fully adjustable
7. Thick rubber feet
Cons: (mostly nitpicking)
1. The horizontal tube/rail the pedals mount was dented a bit. I couldn't flip it over because both pieces had small scratches on one side which I faced towards the floor. The dent doesn't affect functionality and is partially hidden by the pedals.
2. The height adjustment clamp is made from plastic. I don't plan on adjusting if often so only time will tell how long it will last.
Overall I'm very happy with the stand. It is a big improvement from the wobbly foldable stand I've been using. If you're on the fence about getting or making a wheel stand do yourself a favor and upgrade.
Notes:
1. When assembling consider where you want to run your wiring.
2. The instructions consist only of pictures so don't miss the two extra dark colored nuts and bolts that hold the shifter plate to the wheel plate.
3. The stand comes with 4 small 3m brand rubber bumpers which aren't shown in the instructions. The way the pedals are clamped to the horizontal tubes there is up and down play between the drivers end of the pedals and horizontal tubes. I put 2 of the rubber bumpers under the front of my pedals so they sit on the horizontal pedal tubes. This removed all of the play.
4. The vertical pole the steering wheel mounts to has some front to back play. To remove the play tighten the large thumb screw with the large allen key wrench.
