We will miss you .... Maybe. You served your time and you served me well. Come and reflect on the better side of shift here.

You were a good game, but I'm sad to say you have been put in your case and will not come out for a long time. F1 2010 came and pushed you out of the way, but don't worry GT5 is coming soon and F1 will be joining you.

Goodbye Xo

Goodbye Shift
You were nothing but a crapy bad poor imitation

You are not enough famous to be reminded

Hey Rudi(Olá),apparently You're looking for trouble(Forza thread, etc),it's not the smartest thing to do if You're planning on staying here long enough to share Your enthusiasm for GT5 with the rest of the community...

If You don't like a game don't go to that section,or if You can't help Yourself to show Your dislike do it in a way that others(the fans of those games who usually post in those sections)don't get aggravated by your thoughts try to be constructive in your criticisms, don't just pointless bash on them...

If You want others to respect You show respect for them also!

If You can manage to do that,You're welcomed!:)

Don't go away too soon... with this laughable morning news (GT delay), you would risk to spend a lot of time without playing... ;-)

Despite bad bugs at launch, and a dumbed down physics engine, I liked Shift.

I loved the engine sounds and being able to take a showroom stock car and gradually turning it into a dedicated race car. Also, using my DFP with it was fun in cockpit view.

It's no Gran Turismo, but I definately consider it to be one of the better racing releases on the PS3.

And it has one HUGE advantage over GT5...

It actually came out! :dunce:
so, so true

on-topic, i still play Shift even though i have F1 2010 and will get GT5 if it ever arrives

i love to tinker with the visual mods in Shift, and the racing is fun although the ai pile up
into slow turns way too much

so, my relationship with Shift lives on :D

Hello all,

Saw this thread and just wanted to drop a line.

While Shift wasn't necessarily the greatest driving game made, I personally had a great time with it! I can't deny the opportunity to drive Porsches and the almighty Mclaren F1!

Most importantly, it showed me the path of racing leagues! While I wasn't around long, I got the chance to meet some really great friends....who just so happened to be GREAT drivers too!!

So, while we move on to a new era of going fast in another virtual race machine, we look back at what we appreciated about playing this game.

If I ever miss something about Shift, and trust me I will, it's going to be the people!

Thanks again guys!
Matty

So true about the people. BUT there is GT5. I know you don't believe me but it will come out. :lol;

For me personal it is "hello Shift".

I bought the pc version when it was released and only tried it a few times since then. The reason for this is that I only had a joystick to play race games. It wasn't the most ideal thing to use with a race game so I stopped playing Shift. In June my gaming pc stopped working and it is still, for more than 4 months now, it the shop for repair. I bought a G27 in the mean time and tried Shift with the G27 (and some mods to make the steering better) on this pc, which isn't a powerfull gaming pc, just a simple internet/office and so on, pc. I still don't know if Shift is good or not but I'm eager to find out.

Shift is/was an absolute for me!! I still have not mastered my skills with the new g27 on it yet, but there is always time for that.

I bought it once I became burnout racing the same old tracks on GT5p.

I met a ton of great people through that game, who many are now racing F1 2010.

I still play Shift. I say pound for pound it has the best car list of any game. The physics are better than I thought. Take off all assists, set your wheel to 900 degrees & it's actually great. Only problem is the cars won't drive in a straight line & that's totally unrealistic. They're always moving side to side. Also it almost automatically drifts through corners. What angers me the most is the track paraphenalia. All the junk & Shift logos everywhere ruin the tracks. Besides that, the game's extremely underated. These few physics problems I mention are literally the only things from saying it has better physics than Forza. Most people love Grid but that game is crap compared to shift. What I love about shift is the lap times end up nearly identical to lap times in GT4 or GTPSP & to me, that's proof that EA did a lot of things right

Also, I love F1 2010 but shift is far better physics wise & to me physics are the foundation of any racing game so all you people praising it are gonna get sick of it & go back to shift in the next 2 years while wait for GT5 or death

Yesterday evening I had my first very good experience with Shift.
Last year when shift was released I bought the PC version immediatly. I didn't have a steering wheel, just a cheap Logitech joystick, which was terrible to drive with.
Also my gaming computer was (an still is but .....) too weak. In the mean time I upgraded the computer bit by bit but not the graphics card. In juin of this year the motherboard and processor broke. I had to wait 4 months for a replacement motherboard and processor. No more gigabyte and amd for me in the future. These companies don't deserve capital lettres after such a poor service).

2 Days ago I got a replacement graphics card, for free, to replace my weak 8500GT while waiting for the new graphics card to arrive. It's a 8800GT and what a revelation this card is compared with the 8500GT.

I can at last enjoy Shift. Even the G27, which I got this summer, is much better. I didn't know that a graphics card had such a positive inpact on the working of a controller.

Mind you, I got the PC version and installed all the mods, including the overhaul mod v1.3, I liked.

The Xbox360 car mod is also very interesting and you can clearly see that SMS's Ferrari Project, a previous develpoment, was used after license issues and bankruptcy, for shift on the Xbox.

I like shift. And if the are going to improve Shift2 unleashed, I can see that they are going to create a Gran Turismo killer (my personal opinion), like EA already stated.

We just put out the Shift HD mod beta today if you want to really crank visuals on the PC. Still not enough skinners onboard to really do it as I'd like, but if you pick 'identical car' opponents and Audi R8LMSs, F430 GTCs or 997GT3 RSRs you can get an idea where it's headed :)

It's now at 1.3gb of dds'd textures already without even having even one skin for most cars :)

Oh and if you got the DLC cars for PC you might have missed that a bunch of people just pushed out a ~99% accurate track conversion pack of the 4 exotic DLC tracks.

We? You're a modder?

Tell me more, please. :D

Does shift have surround sound? I haven't found anything in the meus, so I guess there is no surround sound.

Can't download the HD mod.

It should support surround in whatever sense your PC supports surround. I only use 2 speakers myself but as far as I know it fully supports surround assuming windows/sound card driver is aware it should output in surround. Enough people have mentioned it works that you should reasonably expect it to work assuming you have hardware/driver support for it.

I am always somewhat wary of taking credit for things that involve a lot of people :) - but I'm effectively project manager for the DLC car conversions project, the HD mod, Overhaul Mod and Unofficial Community Patch. Though I only started contributing to the last two at 1.31 and 1.05, matt2380 doesn't have time to organise them anymore so he asked me to keep them going. You should be able to find the track conversions project over on nogrip, which is where most of the modding activity happens for Shift.

Whatever file host I pick for things there is always someone it doesn't work for. Mediafire is generally pretty reliable for most people, give it another go in a little while. I guess I should stick on a megaupload mirror for it though.

Can't find any of the mods.

Which is the best mod; Overhaul Mod or Unofficial Community Patch?

You should be able to find them, they are all threads on the first page of the link. HD mod, DLC Tracks and DLC car conversions are only available in the threads. Overhaul (last stable release is 1.31, there is a beta version in the forum too if you feel like testing things that might be broken) and UCP should be in the downloads section.

UCP and Overhaul do different things. UCP is just bugfixes to the stock game. Overhaul is a more radical change in handling (less tyre grip, much more variation in available downforce). The bugfixes are a fairly big change in handling all on their own though, you might want to give UCP a go first and see what the game was meant to be like out of the box if it had a proper QA job done on it.

Ok, I'll give the unofficial patch a try. Maybe I like this one more than the overhaul mod. I have to say that I like the overhaul mod though. But as long as I haven't compared tried and compared them both, I can't say for sure which one I like more.

I looked at nogrip everywhere, yesterday, and I couldn't find any of the mods you mentioned. Maybe they have a different thread title?

I reinstalled this computer this morning and I'm downloading the HD mod from mediafire as we speak, uh write. Thanks for the link boxox.

Show me a GT5 onboard vid that's exciting as this:

Good luck!

Turn off the sound... Still exciting?

Didn't think so.

THAT'S what Shift got RIGHT. Snarling engines. Deafening transmission noises. Whining turbos. Screeching tires, and mind-numbing crashes.

What they tied it to was an arcade game for bashers. What a waste.

Destinkeys, I think you have made your point mate (and a valid one I might add). It is getting a bit boring now the ranting on and on

SMS said it was EA's request to make it more arcade :grumpy:

And that Shift2 will include more realistic handling mode :)

I'm not sure why my posts are rants, and everyone else's are just posts, but anyhoo...:dopey:

I just want to make the point that, if the 'clean racing' lobby rules were added to Shift1 with no other things at all, I would still think it an enormous improvement to the game. But if all the eye candy gets added to Shift2, but they DON'T add competency filters, online, it will be the EXACT same flawed game.

What surprises me the most though, is on a forum that really IS a collection of clean drivers (or those that want to be clean, anyway), why this isn't priority number ONE amongst you? Why are ephemera like helmet cams and night racing details SO important, but some kind of mechanism to stop a six year old smashing into the back of you some kind of afterthought (or a rant, apparently  )?

Let's assume that SMS actually troll this forum from time to time. They are going to pay the most attention to the topics MOST discussed. And that seems to be graphic details, primarily. After than, maybe handling mods, and WAY down the list of things that people want changed comes some way to clean up the online system to keep bashers out. A LOOOONG way down..!

Now, bottom line... will you buy the next Shift if it looks prettier, but online is still a piñata-fest, or will you look for another game that takes racing a bit less arcade-y? If you are of the latter, not only agree with me with a curt '+1' but post about it at a bit more length (and the hell with those that call posting about things that THEY don't worry about 'rants'). Because, if SMS are reading this forum, you REALLY want them to think that the ONLY thing we care about is graphics?
