Favorite Car in Hong Kong

Since everyone generally hates this course (including myself), I was wondering what is your favorite car to use on this course when you have to? It's going to take me a while to figure this one out for myself...

:-)

same, because i dont even play on this track..

probably an elise, because its not fast, it's got its well known nimble steering and its one fine looking car...

A Mercedes SL55 AMG ;) or anything that moves.

I was born in Hong Kong, but my family has immigrated to Canada now. So I usually just cruise around the map, looking at the places that I remember going, I even invited my mom to join once. :)

I don't really have anything against this track.

But I like to drive my Mine's Skyline there. Seems to work really well there.

The only reason i'd race that track, is if it was on a series, whiich i'd use whatever I have, or, To drift, In that case I'd use my Amuse R1

Whichever one has the most power *insert maniacal laugh*. It's the one track that the computer can beat my Cadillac CIEN in the dream car championship (you know the one with the Zonda LM car) when I only use R1 tyres, the track is too tight yet flowing for my liking.

I kind of like Hong Kong. I hated it at first almost as much as I hated the ring. (which I now like too)
After running it a couple times, it's quite a good track for testing on.

I personaly like running classics out there.

Best car around Hong Kong... any car that I get lapped with if racing in the Gran Turismo World Championship. I don't usually have a favorite car for a certain track. Part of the challenge for me is to win the race with whatever kind of car I have. Having said this, I favor cars with decent speed and can handle effectively. Hong Kong is a handling track. You can't really speed demon your way around Hong Kong. Speed helps, but this is a handling course with a variety of challenging and decisive corners. I sometimes just race my 2004 Pescarolo Courage around Hong Kong. I even race some of the fantasy LM Race Cars like the RX-7 LM Race Car.

As an off-topic note, this was a pretty interesting course when I first seen it in pictures. I've seen some pictures of Hong Kong online before, and I just want to say that this is a VERY futuristic city. The laser light show that I've seen truly hints this is a futuristic-type city. I think about that, and then think about Hong Kong in GT4. The unique sunset time at Hong Kong is nice, but I do wish that the course was deeper into night when you see their light show. Maybe have a different kind of course in Hong Kong for future iterations.

If you want to see what kind of Hong Kong light show I'm talking about, check out these YouTube clips:

But I basically just use relatively-fast cars with great handling. No specific car.

I'm kinda like JohnBM01 there. Don't have a favorite car for any course.

Do a lot of people really hate Hong Kong? I always dug it; especially the color & and all the lights. It seems hardly any races are held at Hong Kong, and tons are held at more sparsely decorated courses like Fuji, Tsukuba, and Motegi. I wish there more more Hong Kong races, actually. :indiff:

Same here, or the S800 Race Car.

Parnelli, didn't you say that you disliked the lights before?

Not me. I always liked that track. Matter of fact whenever I do the beginner's FF Challenge, I try and get some e-brake action so I have at least one Photomode moment. Hong Kong is a great photomode track, and the cluttered, schizophrenic background scenery means I'm always noticing something new.

Yes, it's a lot of people's least favorite course.

:-)

Why?? Maybe because some of the turns are incredibly slow I suppose. :indiff:

Mostly because it punishes immediately from even the smallest mistakes. Take the corner 10 cm too much on the inside of the racing line and meet either the ridiculously tall kerb or the wall - and end up on the outside wall. Take the corner 10 cm too much on the outside of the racing line and fall victim to the off camber corners - and end up on the outside wall. It's just too unforgiving to be a really enjoyable track in a fast car.

In the GT World Championship, the Sauber Mercedes C9, since it leaves everything else for dead. :)👍

Edit: And I dislike driving heavy cars around this track such as the Aston Martin Vantage, because they're quite difficult to control around the hairpins and 90 degree corners.

I'll have to try it out. I run my DB7 at Hong Kong all the time with ease--stock suspension, too.

The DB7 isn't as difficult to drive as the Vantage. IMO, the Vantage is lacking in the cornering department. Straight Line speed is killer though.

That's how I feel about the final turns at Clubman R5  I hate that course, which is odd cuz I love the full version of Route 5.

But yeah...I can see your point. A fast car at Hong Kong doesn't sound like a whole lotta fun..but I still like Hong Kong and hopefully I'll see more of it as I go thru GT4.

Thats true. Not to long ago I realized that there was a working escalator at end of the straightaway that has people riding up it.

Yup. It's tucked in the background so you cant see it unless you catch it in certain views from the replay. I also dig the double-decker bus and all the neon signs. :)

Come to think of it, New York City has some stuff in common with hong kong, if it wasn't for the chinese letters, I would think I'm in Manhattan. tight turns, plenty of 90 degree turns, and all those night lights with the water right next to the streets. We have plenty of articulated (check avatar) and double decker buses.

I hate hong kong as a track though, slight mistakes = big mistakes, it's more unforgiving and than the nurburgring IMO. WHY IS THIS TRACK SO DIFFICULT?!?!!? :banghead:

The main thing to learn about Hong Kong? SLOW DOWN!

Seriously. You have to rely on good braking, weight transfer knowledge to get your car lined up right before and during turns, and odd racing lines here...if you push too hard you'll wind up smacking the walls (hey I did this several times, too) so it's about tiptoeing thru the corner....blasting out of it....braking heavily, diving in with the steering, etc.

It's like the corkscrew at Laguna. You can't rush it.

Which straightaway has that at the end? I assume the main straight, but I should check this out for myself.

Good find.

Its right at the intersection of Canton rd. and Kowloon Park Dr. (turn 7)
