What is your favorite type / class of car racing? And Why?

Also, is there one you don't like? How come?

My favorite is Le Mans. I love those cars, the difficulty level of the tracks, the history, and the international scope.
1970, Porche 917, +240mph
1990, Mercedes Benz C9, +250mph

Least Favorite would have to be NASCAR. Why? Jus a sec' while I spit my tobacco juice and crack open a can of Bud Light . . . there that's better. Lets see now. I don't like NASCAR because all the cars look boring, the courses are boring, and it is everywhere. NASCAR is turning ou to be like "Da Bulls" Total NASCAR saturation.

my fav would have to be midget & sprint car racing (no not the ones with the ugly wings) and then WRC for obvious reasons.

for those of you who dont know much about midgets & sprint cars this should fill you in:

midget: 375hp, 4cyl, norm asperated, 900lbs, run on 1/8 to 1 mi dirt & pavement ovals

sprint car: 850hp, v8, norm asperated, 1100lbs, run on 1/8 to 1 1/2 mi dirt & pavement ovals

pics of midgets at the prairie go here>

Gotta say the DTM Races are great

And JGTC is full of near 500bhp beasts :smilewink

And F1 is the best in my opinion :star: Why don't so many of the :USA: Guys like it? I hear it doesn't get much support in America? :shakehead

I would have to say at the moment im liking in order
British Touring Cars, come on some of the most exciting races I have seen are here, oh and evil dirty driving tactics ;)
DTM yes I agree with alexy whole heartedly on this, ze germans are really good when it comes to sticking a huge V8 into an ordinary sporty coupe!
World superbikes, I dont know much about bikes but we get good coverage of it over here and it is exciting close racing.
F1 = And Schumacker wins again

In America NASCAR is the only game in town. It's embarassing. NASCAR drivers have been elevated to the level Michael Jordan once was. They are used to endorse everything from fatty, sweet snacks to hair salons. I think Earnhardt had something to do with it, but whatever.

Americans don't like to have to understand anything. If it's not immediately obvious its not worth the effort. F1 cars don't look like cars in the traditional sense. Americans want to believe that their smouldering rattle trap overheating on the gridlocked freeway is really a race car, too. And the guy driving the Porche is looked at with envy and resentment.

NASCAR drivers, with their (predominantly) hillbilly accents and trailer park looks are easy for the average American to relate to. The F1 world with its International feel and presence makes the average American nervous and insecure.

Unfortunately, America is a nation of envious, greedy, low-brow Homer Simpsons chugging beer out of cans, dreaming of fame and riches, lying on the couch, day after day (but not all Americans, just way too many, aka: majority).

I'd rather watch go-carts race.

I really like F1, and WRC. Also, the BTCC is back from the dead, and going really well. Plus my friend is doing quite well in it, which helps!

I saw a round of JGTC on one of the digital TV channels, and really liked that. And I still like CART, although it's rare that I get to see it much.

As for racing I don't like - well, NASCAR is one. Also, I don't like the fact that there's so many single seater formulae - most of the cars look very similar, and it's so hard to keep track of who/what is hot, and who's not. Not much of a fan of F3000. A bit like NASCAR, only in single-seaters!

Your friend drives in the BTTC! thats so cool!
It better not be that 17 year old guy in the Vauxhall :D
j/k if it is!

Is he in the Touring car class or the lower class?

#1 - JGTC...sucks since I can only get recorded videos from military friends stationed in Japan.....so I can't keep up with actuall standings and races.

#2 - Le Mans

#3 - Speedvision

#4 - US Superbike racing

I like F1 a lot more than IRL or Cart......Shumacker may be a cocky SOB, but he drives with balls and a very controlled aggression.

I hate Nascar......just boring. Watching 40cars at 180mph drafting each other for 3 hours....yea....that takes a lot of skill.

schumaker drives with balls, come on you have got to be kidding me. he only drives with balls when hes put in a go-cart, i'd like to see him put in a sprint car at putnumville and see how he does then- that would take some real driving

Sorry, missed this completely! No, it's not "that 17 year old guy" (Tom Chilton). My friend is Matt Neal, who's driving one of the Egg Astras.

Umm......

Sorry, my father isn't also my uncle, and my mother isn't my sister.

Oh, and we have paved roads (and race tracks too!) where I come from, oh and I fancy racecars that cost more than a new "Huffy" at K-Mart.

Maybe when they start shipping 92 Octane gas to whatever cornfeild you live next to in Indiana, then we'll chat.

Ta ta.
