Favorite Roads

I'm surprised that there is no thread on road discussion yet, considering it is pretty much the entire concept of the game.

What are your favorite roads of Horizon?

So far, many of them feel pretty similar. The freeway is pretty cool for highspeed runs, and there is a slight mountain touge feel about the road leading up to the damn on the eastern portion of the map. It even has a parking area near the top, like initial d. In that same area is also cool little dirt hill climb leading from the dam up to the main road. Those are my three favorite so far, although I can't say I'm particularly thrilled about even those.

I hope T10/PG adds more content in the form of roads. I'd rather see this expanded at the moment than even a single new car. The map feels rather small, a spirited drive sees you across the entire map in just 2-3 minutes, which is too short, IMO. I really want to see more variety.

They have what appears to be a huge dry lakebed on the western portion of the map which seems like it would be perfect for some sanctioned venue. Also, why not have a drag strip somewhere in the world? A road course? Surely just because it's open world, doesn't mean that it can't contain a road course.

More than those though, I really want to see more road types! There seems to be only, at most, 4 types of road. Dirt roads (which are more or less the same complexity and width), Freeway, and roughly two types of secondary road. The problem, as with FM4 and many other racing games, is that they are all FAR TOO WIDE! Give us some narrow mountain passes Forza! They are all over Colorado. Not everything is a two lane state highway! I just think that the world is a little static overall, and not really convincing as a real place. The vistas are enchanting, sure, but the infrastructure is a little surreal, and definitely lacking. I really hope they can improve it with expansions.

Also, give us some rain and storms! It rains a LOT in the mountains.

That post was far longer than I initially planned.

TL;DR
T10/PG: Don't worry about adding cars yet, give us more interesting and diverse driving situations, then add weather, then add cars and features.

I fully agree with what you said, I would love to have 50% more roads.

I played yesterday and I found myself driving around looking for a hidden road, I ended up searching for the entrance to a road but found out it was the ( I think) railroad tracks along the western side of the map ( follows the highway section).

Yeah, don't really understand why a discussion thread was moved to Q&A.

Hopefully this one isn't.

I wish they would name the roads in the game. They feel so anonymous.

Maybe someone could merge the threads?

Anyway, after finally discovering all the roads, there are so many good places to drive. My new favorite area is the highway so I can do high speed blasts back and forth.

I think many of them have names already. I was considering a little project like this, since the roads are so characterful and memorable.

Isn't the big highway supposed to be part of the I-70 route?

Whatever it's called it's my favourite part of the map so far.

Has anybody noticed blocked off dirt roads, or paved roads that are inaccessible? There is one that runs parallel to the north side of the highway, then curves and runs along the northern edge of the map. I also noticed a few spots where there is a dirt road that has barrels blocking access to it. I wonder if that is part of the upcoming Rally Expansion.

That's actually a railroad, it runs from the steel mill along the freeway and into a tunnel (presumably) near Redfoot Ranch. If you go to one of the places where it crosses a road, you'll find a bridge.

Right below the "C" of Clifton Valley, there's a dirt run that crosses from one road to another. It's blocked off by those portable fence stands. I've been keeping an eye out for map expansion clues, but haven't found anything truly convincing yet.

I wish they had a bit more highway in the game. It's barely 5 miles long.....
I like the road running parallel to Clear Springs Reservoir- very scenic. I haven't really checked out Kettle Hills, Gladstone, Beaumont or Finley Dam yet, nor any of the northern section of the map around the Rockies.
Not so sure about Addisson West Steelworks- bit of an eye sore in such magnificent surroundings lol.

I quite like the highway, and I've had numerous memorable experiences on it already, for better or for worse. Cruising with an AI-driven Integra just below the speed limit in my Datsun in the morning sun was just fantastic, but watching Colorado drivers incite their wrath on my new Grand Cherokee was not fun at all. Why they blindly cut you off and slam on the brakes in the middle of the road is still a mystery at me. It was especially nerve-wracking when I nearly got sandwiched in between an SUV and a bus. I do wish that the highway was placed in a way on the map to where it would be more useful for driving from event to event; I have yet to be directed onto the highway by the navigation system.
I was driving my new '65 Mini around the map the other night, through the highway and some twisty roads, and I eventually came upon this little neighborhood; it's a mountainous area dotted with nice houses and small businesses. Regardless, its tight switchbacks and several intersections proved to be a fun environment to hoon around in. There's also this event, a showcase event, maybe the third one you're signed up for. It's an event where you're given a Corvette Grand Sport on a fast mountain road and you're tasked with running against a helicopter. I felt that that car, combined with that road, in that situation, was one of my favorite moments in the game yet. It required you to keep tremendous speed through the corners, and you could only use the brakes when absolutely necessary, lest the helicopter pass you up. It was a tight, tight race, and I finished just a hair faster than the helicopter; it was still ahead at the last second according to the game, but as I crossed the line, it told me I was first. I fondly remember that event, and that road, and I hope I come across it again.

I'm pretty sure that race is designed to let you win. I was doing pretty bad in that last race, running well behind the helicopter, but in the last section the helicopter suddenly slowed and I finally passed it. I'm pretty sure it was the program, and not my driving.

Getting back on topic, I'm enjoying plenty of the roads in the game. I really haven't found a road I don't like yet.The freeway that runs around the west/northwest section of the map is terrific high speed fun. I think the Red Rocks area might be my favorite so far. Nicely twisty and very scenic.
