There is nothing wrong with a 550D. Yours is miles better than my Nikon D60 and I am doing 3rd year in a BA of Photography. Its not what you use, more how you use it.

Shots are not looking too bad but I would suggest try some composition techniques other than having the subject slap bang in the middle all the time. 👍
