Ferrari 458: Too Tall?

I saw a commercial for the new Cadillac CTS-V this evening and in it there was mention of Ferrari using suspension technology that Cadillac had pioneered: Magnetic Ride Control

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxLCw-S3al4

Anyway, this encouraged me to go and buy a new 458 (a red one, the first time I'd chosen this color on a 458) and play with it in entirely out-of-the-box-stock tune. After running it around Monza and watching the replay, I couldn't help but notice the amount of space between the top of the tire and the fenderwells. It wasn't only exaggerated on corners where the car's natural roll reared its ugly head, but throughout the blistering minute-and-fifty-second laps. Does anyone else feel that this car is rendered (in stock tune) way too tall?

Does it matter! Just lower it!

No, Barron, considerably higher. As for lowering it, any suspension height adjustment affects other aspects of suspension geometry and the whole point was to enjoy the car as-is. The stock performance leaves little more to be desired, maybe just a tad less understeer from the Sport Hard tires, my only real complaints are with its visual representation.

The technology was actually pioneered by Rod Millen Motorsports, later renamed MillenWorks, for extreme off-road applications, and simply put into limited use by Cadillac before being adopted by Ferrari.

Yeh when looking at the car it looks too tall as the space from the ground to the bottom of the bumper is huge.

The Cadillac Seville STS was the first car to apply 'Magneride' however I must stress that the Cadillac advert must be very misleading as I don't think it's anything like Ferrari's development of it in terms of handling or ride.

I would say it's because of the downforce. In the game you don't see how the air is pushing the car down toward the ground as you do in real life. Or it could be that the car was in a corner on the commercial. PD hasn't worked alot with making visual effects when it comes to the cars.

To be fair, I should say that I wasn't basing comparison solely on the commercial. I have seen numerous 458s (at dealerships, anyway) and the cars aren't nearly as high as depicted in the game.

Maybe the 458 in the game shares the same suspension of this cadillac:

Not that much difference, if any

(yes the 458 in my GT5 pic above is dead stock)

Take a Pic, Share with Friends, go to Gran-Turismo.com, copy code. It may take a little while to show up on the GT servers.

This was taken at Monza, just after Roggia. I made sure to get the car on an even keel and be off of both the gas and the brake. Perhaps it's not as bad as I first perceived, but it still seems higher than the real thing.

Some of my pics are the same. Like a 2-3 inch fender gap. My guess is they modeled the car with the softest suspension setting on, instead of sport or race or whatever.
