Sony aren't above throwing EA money either. I seem to remember they bought some exclusive Mirror's Edge content a while back.

Can they really afford to give one platform exclusive content over the other?

They've already shot themselves in the foot with all that's still wrong with the game as it is.

"afford" .. ? The content was mostly already done before Shift came out. This way they get a giant kickback from MS as well as $10 a pop from everyone who buys it, on a title that already sold something like 2-3 mil even before christmas. The live team are very aggressive about getting exclusive or at least timed exclusive DLC for their platform, for them it's not so much about making money as getting people on the platform and subscribing.

So yes they can probably afford it, and at least from the publishers point of view, one of the things that didn't go wrong was any failure to make loadsamoney. And now they're making even more :)

First a Huge disappointment from Supra and now Ferrari's? Only FXX and F50 GT looks promising but rest are not. I think we don't miss a thing, those cars looks slower then Zonda R or Lambo LP640. But still it would be a nice thing to drive them. They look stunning.

bummer about the Ferraris not coming to Shift PS3, but i've got them all to drive in Supercar Challenge so it's not so bad :)

why the hell bring it out on x box 360, most of them would have already blown up or melted them selves away by time it comes out the online play is dead as cemetery WHY it defies logic EA are you stupid!!!

And i think the ferraris should f### off to be honest bring in the proper track cars like the RASCAL and the noble twin turbo 400bhp.

and also it would be good if EA would make the cars in the game rev to the same limit as the real car.
as i can tell you a V12 can rev a hell of a lot higher then 8,500RPM try somthing 13,000RPM the abilaty to rev that high would bring a hole new challenge to the game.

The way I read it, the only content not coming to PS3 is the "Ferrari World Tour" race series. My impression was that all platforms get the rest of the content, including all the cars.

To quote the needforspeed.com front page:

"We have news for Need for Speed fans across the globe today, and it’s big – Ferrari is making its triumphant return to the NFS universe for the first time since Hot Pursuit 2 with the release of the Ferrari Racing Series for SHIFT.

You read that correctly, the last time a Ferrari was featured in an NFS game was nearly eight years ago. We’ve got a full range of 10 supercars from the prancing horse, including the California (seen above), F430 GTC and one of the rarest Ferraris of all, the F50 GT.

Also included in the Ferrari Racing Series, which is available exclusively on Xbox 360, is the Ferrari World Tour, a new series of races where you’ll pit yourself against Ferrari’s stablemates in a series to determine which Italian supercar is king of the hill.

The Ferrari Racing Series is available for SHIFT starting February 16th for a cost of $9.99. Here are some shots of the cars in the pack to tide you over until it’s out. "

Now reading over that again. It could be read in two ways, either the Ferrari Racing Series is exclusive to X-Box or the Ferrari World Tour is exclusive to X-Box. ????? Not exactly clear.

the way you quoted it, it's more clear that the whole dlc pack is called "ferrari racing series" and is totally 360 exclusive… but i can't blame anyone for wishful thinking.

on another note, it doesn't make any sense for microsoft to make dlc for a multiplatform game exclusive. any potential customer of this add on already has a 360, and/or a ps3 and/or a well specced pc. fully exclusive games boost console sales, but dlc for a game like shift isn't going to switch anyone over.

the way i read it, ea still has licensing issues with ferrari over the ps3 and pc. as gran turismo fans remember, it took a long time for the series to include them. of course, i don't know how ferrari's current license model looks like, but it could complicate matters on other platforms than the 360.

if i am wrong however, there is nothing more stupid ea could have done to alienate customers.

I think if it's a timed exclusive, rather than a full exclusive, it's definitely in their interests to muddy the waters as to which it is :)

As it turns out it looks like it will be possible to take the 360 DLC, extract it and run it on a PC - maybe not with whatever executable version is shipped with the 360 DLC but the critical model/texture/physics files should be extractable. I have been playing around pulling XBLA demos off the 360 HD (god damn they make that a pain to get out) all evening and I haven't run into any I can't pull common filetypes (eg xml, dds) out of and read yet.

So now there is more confusion then it was earlier :grumpy: February 16th is new date for ps3 and pc.

All this because greedy microsoft.

Ferrari Races Into Need for Speed SHIFT

Feb 08, 2010 | Press Release

On February 16th, players of Need for Speed SHIFT will be able to download a content pack that delivers 10 extraordinary Ferrari cars including the 430 Scuderia and the ultra-rare FXX and F50 GT.

Either way EA won't see a singe penny from me...i would pay for new tracks thought...

So,

We would love to provide the Ferrari Racing Series across all platforms. However it is only available on Xbox 360 as a result of existing Ferrari licensing agreements beyond the control of Need for Speed. Don't worry though because we’ve got something really cool coming in March.
- NFSDrew

FC or GT5 slurped up the rights and that's why it's not on PS3? And probably 10Tacle's rights to Ferrari Project are in some kind of limbo **** dimension and can't be easily obtained on PC.

To Paraphrase:

So,

PS3 and PC customers, bend over and take one for the team. Don't worry, we'll try and alienate the rest of our customer base in March. :dopey:

I was looking forward to that F430 GTC...

I don't know what they can do about it, if they don't have the rights to those cars on that platform then they don't have the rights.

Other than, say, trade Porsche and Ferrari rights with PD/Sony :)

As posted earlier in this thread the sugashack put up the news on their site. And they say:

"
Need for Speed SHIFT's Ferrari DLC is available today, exclusively on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft Points ($10), with all other platforms receiving the download pack on February 16.
"

Still this is very confusing, i truly don't know what to think and what to expect.

I've never intent do buy original windows 7 for my laptop, screw this.

I am mad at M$ because DLC for GTA4 and now Ferrari's only for they console which sucks buy the way. I'm very happy with my ps3, and Logitech G25 wheel. I was really exited when i heard about Ferrari F50 and FXX coming to NRing :) In my mind i imagine my self racing ON-LINE with one of those, but now i just don't care

I know they wrote that, but it seems that multiple EA reps on the NFS blog, the EA corporate site, and the Shift forums have said that this is not what is going to happen. If it is out "today" (any time left for this to be the case anywhere?) I will put more stock in it, otherwise, I am inclined to think it is another case of a rapid-fire press release recycling news site getting things a bit wrong.

It doesn't look like it was the Live team in this instance, but rather that Nodody Else Can Put Officially Branded Cars Out On The PS3 Because The Rights To Do So Are Not Available.

So let's open our minds and look in super cars excluding Ferrari. What may appear on ps3?

I'm looking at super cars and this is my thought. From Italy we have Hyper cars from Lambo (Murcielago, Gallardo, Reventon), and also Zonda F and R. Also Maserati MC12. From Germany Porsche with Carrera GT and Mercedes with SLR. Again mighty Bugatti Veyron. From Sweden with Koenigsegg. And to be honest God knows from where we have McLaren F1, probably from the same place called United Kingdom we have Aston Martin DBR9. Even Americans who don't know how to make super cars are represent by they Corvette, Viper and Ford GT.

What is missing? Well i know thats obvious, Ferrari but what else. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo, SSC Ultimate Aero, Jaguar XJ220. Wow my list is short. Audi? pfff French cars? Hah. Seriusly there is nothing come to my mind except Ferrari's. What a shame!

Americans don't know how to make supercars? Now, I'll admit, I'm as critical as they come when American automakers state their making a super/hypercar because they tend to rely on cheap materials and even cheaper interior design ethics...but there are plenty of good American supercars.

The Saleen S7/S7 Twin-Turbo
Cadillac Cien (despite it being a glorified engine display)
ME-Four Twelve (despite Chrysler devising excuse after excuse of getting it on the line....which still hasn't/probably wont' happen)
The original GT40 (Mk. III and IV)
GT90 (Something Ford didn't carry through with)

That's all that's passing through my head at the moment, I don't even acknowledge the Ultimate Aero as the only reason for it's existence is clearly to outrun the Veyron, which is blind and redundant.

There are a lot of supercars outside of the USA that comes to mind but I won't bother, but as for a French car...there really isn't a need for one as one is already in the game.

I've been thinking about more of exquisite cars like Zonda and Koenigsegg. Ferrari is only manufacture left. There is also cars like Wiesmann GT and Morgan Aero but those are in 911 speed area.

Now look at the picture of F50GT and FXX, those are quite fast machines. I want them, why i can't have them? And as for cars from France Megan Sport Coupe is not a supercar, just a worthless hatch back.

So now Mercedes SLS comes to my mind and maybe Mercedes 190 EVO II

* No 911 / 993 / 996 yet - if they can't get the Ferrari license away then at least they can exploit the Porsche one a bit more to keep T12 happy :)

* Still lacks my absolute favorite GTR/GTL cars, the Vertigo Streiff, TVR 400 (now there's a brand you could get cheap these days), Lister Storm, Jag E-type and Alfa GTA. Already got the dbr9 at least :)

* No open wheelers

* Nothing as nice as an Abarth or Mini for FWD races

* No V8 Supercars - if that's licensed surely they could get the road car Falcon and Commodore and let us works them :)

* Amazingly easy to make convertible versions of any car in 3dsimed, ought to be a body kit option - thought they just couldn't do this for license reasons but they've got the SS16M in the DLC...

But the Bugatti Veyron is.

Although you can't buy them here in the US, the Mosler is a legitimate American Supercar. This thing is awesome...

This is the GT3 Version

But the Bugatti Veyron is.

Owns now by Germans while company is still located in French. VW executives decide to make 1 mln $ car that has 1000 HP and runs 400 km/h. They did it, but that's German engineering, not French. I'm not gonna argue about something that is not main subject. So cm on let stay within speculations.

If it's not Ferrari's, then what else it could be? Maybe new tracks? Al thou i don't really need new tracks since Nordschleife is already here :sly: But i would not complain :)
