FF vs FR

what do you reckon is the better option? An understeering FTO or an over steering, spinning hopeless mustang? Tell me your thoughts on FF Japanese vs FR beasts from USA and Euroupe.

The Integra Type :r: is an ok FF but usually FF's suck as they don't steer to quickly and you hit the wall. But I suppose that is better than spinning out.

if you can tune the suspension well, you can get rid of some understeering effect of the FF. My Civic Type R doesn't have much understeer anymore. I even have an '96 Accord EX that hits the 0-400m in the mid 12's. It's a great car and can run with the Civic Type R and Integra. All Motor.

I still perfer AWD but it is very fun to drive FR and do some drifting.
Heck i can lay rubber on the pavement with my 700+hp Supra RZ through the 0-400m run with Simulation tires. Burns all the way up to 150ish mph.

For you guys that only race where there's great stretches of straight, smooth asphalt, then yes, FR rocks.

However, just like real-life, I prefer a Swiss Army car that can do it all. Slap a set of dirt tires on a Mustang and you'll soon see why FR isn't the drivetrain of choice for certain motorsports. Hell, try driving a Mustang on my road, especially in the winter, and you'll see why FR isn't the drivetrain of choice for New England natives.

It all boils down to what you want the car to do to. Weight transfer and small engines conspire to make FF suck in a drag race. Steering with the gas requires enough concentration and dexterity that, in unskilled hands, FR sucks in the corners.

The skills for FR and FF are VERY different; enough so that it's unlikely that you'll find someone who does both of them well. Personally, I'm marginal with FR, but can drift an FF fairly well.

FR is ok if you learn to control it but I prefer the understeer on the FF's. A race between a 200hp 82 Corvette Stingray and a 200hp Mugen Accord would be interesting. Post if you do this (It could be with any FRvsFF with about the same Hp and relativley same weight.

FF is nice, but FR is better.
The people in my country say:
Jebes ti FF dok imas u garazi FR.
A vi ste svi pederi i stoka.
Ajd prevedi mater ti jebem.

Jervinator's got a good point about FF and FR requiring vastly different skills. A rear-wheel drive car requires a lot more concentration, since you have to remember when to brake, when to hit the gas, not to mention having to keep your revs in a certain range to prevent excessive wheelspin. They also really don't like unpaved surfaces, so if you keep jumping the kerbs it'll take you a lot longer to get back on track safely.

Front-wheel drive cars don't require quite as much precision in driving, but the natural understeer usually means that you need to fight the car around the corners to keep it off the wall or out of the grass, and that means the other cars can sneak around you. Plus in enduro races the front wheels wear out very quickly from having to pull the car, steer, and support the engine's weight, which means more pit stops.

Driving either kind of car the wrong way still results in you being slow and losing races, so the question really isn't really "which is better?", but "which are you better at driving?".

I said the FR is the best.
... and don't you forget it!...

travelling tampon eddy...great ff car
fr...ok under 700hp...then they blow
mr...eh ok i suppose
4wd...GOD DAMN BEST!!! PLENTY OF GRUNT AND HEAPS OF HANDLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DRIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jervinator and Sandusk have the most intelligent perspectives on this thread.

For those that say that FR beats FF all of the time everytime I strongly suggest you go buy the Mitsubishi Taeivon Trampio FTO GT. At approx. 375 hp it'll take 1st in almost every ~500 hp race and some ~600 hp races. If you can drive an FF car well, you can take any car in the corners with the special model FTO.

MR are not bad. I like the handling that the GT40 offers. The NSX -- insane performance, but unforgiving handling.

But 4WD is without a doubt the way to go. Go buy the fully adjustable limited slip and set all three rear to settings to 1 for a high power virtually front-wheel drive car. If it's FR you love set the front settings to 1, although I've never heard of anyone loving FR and loathing 4WD. I suppose anything's possible.

I am a die hard fan of FF cars. Point and shoot. Drift, spin, wait until you're pointing in the direction you want to go and floor it! I can think of no more versatile choice.

uh...me no speeka da babble, you speeka da english?

FFs are better cuz to me they handle better . Although FRs have a wider Hp Range and also are faster. A miata is a waste of $$ cuz u can get a AcuraIntegraTypeR or a HondaCivicTypeR(or Si) for a cheaper price and better handling. And besides i blow at using Frs su i stik with 4WD skylines and whatnot :)

The best FF (Taeivon FTO) can beat the GT All Stars if you drive it clean...with just under 380 hp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:mischievous: the devil drives a Taeivon

Show me a single FF car that can handle 800hp like a RWD Speed 12, and run the same lap times, and I'll think about converting. But the torque steer would probably scare me away. :P

Well in the real world no FF car gets 800 hps unless maybe specialy preped drag cars but in a normal car it would require a very very resistant transmission wich would be too expensive to build.
But yes with that amount of power handling would be something rather tough. When the high horses are in FR may get better cornering (you don´t get many high powered FF cars anyway) but in lower HP classes it can be close; depends on the car and driver.

Damn right, I do worship the Taeivon for its abilities to win any race but I am not forgetting that the high powered FR are faster. The speed twelve is a very good example. The power and torque are phenomenal, but they should have written "handle with care" all over! Anyway...I love my 12s (you have to keep one stock) and will keep it until the end, unlike my ex Escudo.

that wouldnt be a fair race. V8 torque vs inline 4 torque. I know where my money would be.

FR, altho 4wd for drifting fun

ok Why the hell did he even bother comparing FF "Japanese" Vs FR's from the rest of the world..A Little unbalanced there isn't it?...second FF's great for Rally Racing, and low speed cornering...
FR's great for speed, overall cornering...And 4WD just kicks all their azzes...As far as saying "FR beasts from the US"..riiiigggghhhhtttt...

First, I dunno how u got 1500 posts in two months, but chaheez! ;)

Maybe the terminology wasnt quite up to scratch by the poster, but it also may be cos japanese manufacturers set the benchmark for performance cars

But Japanese FF's..Come on..it could just be FF's Vs FR's....But why did it have to say "FF Japanese!!! " Vs the FR's of the rest of the world..The FR's would win anyway..I mean...No reason to make japanese cars look worse
p.s. 1500 already?...I thought I only had 1300 or something
-edit- YOU LIAR it's only 1470...I was all like :irked: -edit-
