FIFA has announced plans to test goal-line technology in future matches.

One system, called GoalRef system, will be tested in either a pair of matches in Denmark's top league, or a single match and a international friendly.

Another system, called the Hawk-Eye, is being considered by the International Football Association Board. That system will be used in England's May 16th Hampshire FA Senior Cup Final, a competition generally for amateur clubs.

The IFAB is set to make a final decision on whether or not to use the technology July 2nd.

In addition to the Match tests, there will be lab and training ground tests which should help officials make a decision by the deadline.

About time. Although I won't hold my breath on it being brought in at major tournaments/leagues anytime soon. *tempts fate*

I see your tempting fate dhandes and I raise you...

FIFA won't introduce the technology on a large scale anytime soon because it will stop them rigging the important matches.

This really, they are bound to try their best to find something wrong with it so they don't have to use it.:ouch:

The 2010 World Cup in South Africa certainly comes to mind where this technology would have been useful. There was one match where a player punches the ball out of the goal so that they were forced to take a penalty kick instead of getting a goal.

Oh, and Liquid...

I call your rigging important matches and raise you "doing more than MLB right now with instant replay(which is do not discuss)".

Sanji, it was Suarez that put his hands to a certain goal, by memory it didn't actually completely cross the line, therefore goal-line technology would have been null and void. He was sent off for deliberate hand ball (which would been a goal) and the only option for the ref was for a penalty shot, the fact they missed it was irrelevant... I've talked to people who both understood his actions (some even supported it (do what it takes to win...)) and didn't approve of it (it's cheating). However, even those who supported/understood the action agreed his celebration of the missed subsequent penalty was over the line.

However the technology would have been handy for the 'goal' (or non-goal) from Lampard (?) where it hit the crossbar and bounce fully inside the line (by quite some way) and spun out...

While goal line technology is more than welcome, not to say well overdue, there are other questions to sort, lets say the technology is there and it indicated despite Suarez's attempt it fully crossed the line. Therefore the goal is scored BEFORE Suarez's illegal attempt. Despite his poor sportsmanship is the ball now not technically considered 'dead'? Should he still be sent off? Would there be a double punishment if he was, a goal scored AND now a man down? Maybe only a yellow card?

There is no doubt the sooner a reliable system in place some injustices will be righted.

EDIT: Less than 24hrs later... F.A.Cup Final... another example where a perceived 'controversy' could be confirmed either way...
