That last rule confused me.

If you vote/do not vote for your match's competitor, it will not be counted against you or your competitor.

Am I not allowed to vote for my competitor? Or do I have to vote for him?

Suprised the red camaro didn't get more votes. It's really bold - I like it!

Here's my analyzation of all the shots...

me vs. Nickname

I voted for Luis obviously. He has a solid shot, although to tell the truth, I am surprised he is killing me at the moment. He has said earlier that he is poor at drifting shots, but I think he could have done better. The fact that he has tried to brighten up a dark night shot gives it weird lighting and poor quality, although it has good use of ingame blur. Would anyone care to tell me what exactly is wrong with my shot?

NTX vs. Rateku

This was a very strong match, probably the strongest of this round. NTX's shot is fantastic, which is why I voted for it. It has a great DOF, fantastic tones and composition, and includes that great NTX style. Rateku's shot is good too, it has great tones, but the composition is not as good as some Rat's other shots. While we're on it, the full size is a bit small too.

Grump vs. 80Y

This was another good match. Grump has a nice shot, with great reflections on the car, but it has many flaws. The text is very annoying, I'm not too hot on the font either. The background seems a bit washed-out and the shot is not composed well. 80Y's shot was very artistic, but the quality of the oversaturated car and road were a big turnoff. Grump gets my vote here.

LancerEvo vs. David

I was not a fan of Lancer's shot. It was too washed-out and did not seem well thought-out. David's entry was a bit better. The composing was interesting and the contrast was better than that of his rival's shot. David gets the green tick from me.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh, you know I'm hard on everybody :P

Lol. Once I came home from school today, I started getting really worried because I couldn't find my memory card. So I started looking through my HD, just imagining what the shots would look like with a crop. Then I ran across this one, that I was originally going to crop another car into, but I never got around to it. So I just cropped this one and it really stood out. I like it overall. :)

MinoltaMan - When I saw the two shots in the poll, I thought yours looked very good, and the full screen view didn't change that, but Nickname's shot looks amazing when viewed full screen. There is nothing wrong with yours necessarily but that it doesn't have the same "energy" of Nickname's shot. I still really like your shot, but Nickname's actually amazed me. Nice job both of you!

While I'm on that subject, I might talk about the other entries:
The sixties was (were?) a powerful decade. Of the two shots, NTX really has a mood of power and darkness. The blur in the background just makes this shot stand out so much to me. Rateku's shot has great quality, but it is a bit too light I think, and I don't think it has the power and meaning that the sixties stand for. Excellent shots again guys!

The next one is interesting. Two very different shots but equally artistic in my view. However, when I think of red, again I think of power and boldness, and the bright red Camaro against the dark road is just absolutely gorgeous. However, red can also represent passion, and the Corvette seems to have this quality to it. Both gorgeous shots, but I had to go with the Camaro for something truly different and definitely striking.

The last battle is strange to say the least. Having the same setting by chance makes the comparison much more based on placement and quality than creativity (I know that location can be hard to set up interestingly). The Copen just seems to fit there, like some cute panda coming up the path. Also, the contrast is higher and stands out more. Sorry Lancer, you probably could have put some more work into your shot and come up with something striking, but as it is now, I'm struggling to see exactly what you were aiming for. A little more practice perhaps.

Really nice competition so far guys. I would have loved to be in this but I have very little time and I didn't really want to get GT4 out again. I'm just going to patiently wait until we can start having GT5 photo tournaments ;). As a result I'm trying my best to have input on the competition, so I can at least be a part of it. Keep shooting, and I'll be sure to give my input on the next poll! :)

Edit: By the way, Grumpeone, did that shot by any chance come from a WRS replay? I particularly remember racing that same car in the same color on the same track. I just can't remember if it was the same direction.

Cheers guys. 👍

The original shot was quite dull, so in order to accentuate the red (and the streaks of the road) I upped the contrast more than usual. I was wary of the road imperfections, and I took notice of both the red and the imperfections when I was adjusting. Maybe it was too much for some, but I quite like it myself too.

The way I voted:

Would anyone care to tell me what exactly is wrong with my shot?

I found the backdrop a tad too dark (not the car though - a bit more balance would be nice), and I just don't really feel the drift. There isn't any smoke (which is alright), but there is no real angle (or maybe it isn't portrayed as well). The Golf shot takes it because it shows more of the fury that is involved with drifting. In terms of compostion, is good, but the Golf has the balance of looking good and fitting the criteria.

NTX won over Rateku because if those amazing deep tones in the Cougar. The chrome turned out nicely as well leaving for a really well done shot. The red almost catches in the sun, which contrasts nicely with the backdrop.

I did not vote for GrumpEone because MinoltaMan said they wouldn't be counted anyway.

I voted for David48 in the last one. I am quite sick of this wave of people doing shots that have the ground cutting off the car. I see it a pseudo artistic and I'm seeing too much of it. Once or twice is enough. That said, I much rather the tones used in the Copen shot. The deepness of the trees and the streaks of light coming though are catching, and they work themselves over the shot nicely. The 300ZX needs a dose of 3rds IMO, and the slightly less contrast takes away from the deepness of the bamboo forrest. If this was thanks to a laptop LCD screen, I fully understand, because I do it too. :dunce:.

So there you are - GTP's secret Simon Cowell. Sorry for being harsh on some people, but I mean it in the nicest, most encouraging way.

No, that shot came from MY photoshoot for this Tournament. I do my own work for these competitions, and I don't like the insinuations that my work may not be my own.

This is PMC not 2.0, so I will judge the shot in composition and styling but not pixel quality.

MM vs Nickname:
Went for the Golf because there are more elements to form a nicer shot than the Esprit. Esprit is one solid shot with good contrast but no surprise and lack of drift angle/counter-steering.

NTX vs Rateku:
Cougar takes the cake. Totally the style I am digging. The Camero looks like a snapshot and it has camera-shy feeling to it.

Is anyone else having trouble viewing the full size version of the match 1, Lotus picture? I can’t seem to open it.

I haz question. Why are some match ups recieveing more votes than others?
Because we still get spanners who can't be bothered to read the opening post. 👎

Luke's full size image is showing "404" here.

EDIT: Yes, jacoja, I can't see it either!

EDIT 2: I also can't see one shot of the 4th pair. :odd:

I could see them earlier, but yes, I can't enlarge MinoltaMan's Esprit or see the 300ZX either. Now.

I just don't really feel the drift. There isn't any smoke (which is alright), but there is no real angle (or maybe it isn't portrayed as well). The Golf shot takes it because it shows more of the fury that is involved with drifting.

This is exactly why I voted for the Golf. The drift is clearly visible compared to your shot, Luke, and I believe that's what matters in a drift-based shot.

NTX vs. Rateku

Voted for the Camaro. The color on the picture reminds me of old american series, like the Dukes of Hazzard, and since both of you used american cars (I don't know if that was on the theme), I went for that one. If the wheels had no angle, and the wheels were others (these seem to be a like "weak"), the picture would have been better, in my opinion.

GrumpEone vs. 80Y 2C2

Honestly, the background in GrumpEone's shot is nowhere near the quality of the car, which kinda takes away points from his picture. That, along with the color of the car which, if it's indeed red, hasn't been properly portrayed, and the border you used, made me go for 80Y 2C2's shot instead, which clearly shows what red is about: passion, speed. 👍

I wasn't suggesting that at all! In fact I thought perhaps YOU raced that week's WRS too, with the same car as me, and took a gorgeous picture from it. The other option is that it's a coincidence, which is why I asked. I meant no disrespect!

Just let the browser show me the source text of the poll and I quickly found this. This is supposed to be LancerEvo7GSR's entry, right (I can't see the preview image, but the full size one is enough, though)? Luke's full size image is still showing a 404 error. :boggled:

Yeah, Imageshack failed on us two. Here's my entry:

Lancer will have to reupload his shot, it's not showing in his PM either. Thanks for all the comments everyone.

Thanks for reuploading your entry.

Luke - It's a solid entry you've cooked up. Everything looks right and clean. What is missing is smoke and I'd prefer this shot from a wider angle, showing the drift.

Luis - Very nice shot. Shutter speed has been set perfectly. The colours look great and the whole drift looks great. Angle is perfect as is the fact that your shot shows a lot of action.

Voted for: Luis

Nuno - I love your entry! I love every single pixel of it! It has the unique "NTX-style" to it and that's what makes it a great entry. The car is very clean and smooth. The colours of the car are strong, whereas the background colours are a tad weaker. The fact the background is blurred makes the car stand out even more now. This also gives depth to the whole shot, which is always a good thing. Well done.

Rateku - Good entry! The concept is good, but little mistakes make it a bit down. For example, the whole shot is too bright and needs a bit more contrast. Furthermore, the camera wasn't placed very well, thus showing the car from an inappropriate perspective. The wheel angle isn't good either. Nonetheless, this shot is a solid entry, but it wasn't as good as Nuno's shot, in my opinion.

Voted for: Nuno

Grumpy - Very nice shot. I like the wide angle very much. The car is very clean and the buildings in the background make it even better. The car's colours are very strong an brightness / contrast have been set very well. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that the background looks a bit washed out. That it's blurry is very good, but the colours could've been a bit stronger.

80Y 2C2 - Your entry is really standing out. But is this good or bad? Well, the concept isn't bad, but the conversion isn't that good. Sure, the car is clean and all. And making the road a tad darker and adding more contrast to the car helped, but all in all, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed by your shot. I thought you would come with a killer shot. Instead you delivered a shot from an above-the-car perspective, which needed just a bit of editing to look good. Not that I want anyone to invest so much time on the entry, it's just that the final result ended in something I didn't expected from you.

Voted for: Grumpy

LancerEvo7GSR - Nice entry, I have to say. Three things bug me here: The camera hasn't been positioned well. Then, the car's back is too near to the right wall in the picture and also the background is way too bright. What makes this shot better is the fact you have a lot of reflections on the car.

David48 - Very nice entry. The perspective is very good and I like how the car looks like it's going to climb over the hill. The car is very clean and the trees in the background which light comes through look great.

Voted for: David48

Okay, just making sure. I think I took that reply the wrong way, but if I can take it the wrong way others could too, and I had to confirm that it is my own work, as not doing your own work is grounds for DQ. I haven't checked-out WRS at all, maybe I'll look into it and see what it's all about.

What ever happened to saving shot analyzation until after the poll, as not to sway the poll. The positive and negative comments may influence others toward a different vote.
Not a big deal, just food for thought. It's not much of an issue for me, since I vote before reading anything in the thread (other than the 1st post, in case of clarifications).

BTW great shots everyone!!

Makes sense. No hard feelings then. 👍

Gahhhhhh I hate this! So close yet so far! Been like this since the start.

*head explodes*

:scared:

Yeah. Even more close now. But Gumpy is still winning because he voted for mine, and I didn't vote vote his, and because his vote doesn't count, it puts me as one vote less.

Congrats to Nicknamealguem, NTX, GrumpEone, and David48 on advancing to the next round...which I will have up later tomorrow.
