Now I feel like frentzey did last time... how did you guys do that???

2.3 second margin with the RX-8??

Oh well, I'm not one to call anyone a liar and since Fury is really good and consitently good I can only say: Good job dude! Looks like you took the cup!

I guess I should re-do an overall standings thread since frentzey won't be back for a while...

Ha!! Both you guys conspired against me and used the "I'm not very good at this course" routine, eh? Nice one!

Huh? What happened? Did you all only do like 2 runs and then were satisfied with your times? C'mon, this was the last round! You are supposed to let it all hang out! Where was the fierceness? Where was the competitiveness?

Now I must admit, I did use some of that "oh I'm not doing good, I hate this place" strategy, but that was all the truth. When I got my time, I decided not to go off and say "Wow I got this extraordinary unbeatable time that is sure to get me the victory" because I thought that would make you want to push your car to the limits and just blow me away. I will say that I probably spent the most time on this race, maybe a little bit more at Seattle, but you all should have beaten me with the Supra and RX-7.

One thing I did notice when I was comparing the RX-8 and the Supra in practice runs was that the RX-8 could hold the line through the corners a lot easier than the Supra could. Didn't get a chance to test out the RX-7. I assume the start made a big difference as I kept exiting out the race until I was against a set of cars that would allow me to get through the first turn as good as possible. Plus I mastered getting off the line with the RX-8 by using the 400 meter run.

This is a big shocker.

I can't provide any sector times because I didn't write them down. I figured I wouldn't need them since you guys were going to be so much faster. But if you would like, I would be glad to give you a rundown on how I took each turn and what my speeds were on each turn.

It's true I could have spent more time on this... I just figured I had enough to beat the RX-8. How stupid of me. Anyway, if you wouldn't mind helping out with your lines, I could use some help. I actually ran this in free run for about two hours and did get one sub-1'53.000 so those times of mine are about at my limit with the lines I was taking... I'm going to try running it some more tomorrow because tonight I'm just gonna relax and watch a movie and wallow in my failure.

Two hours in the Free Run and only a sub 1'53?

Yeah, you could use a bit of help.

With Tokyo, I think the key to fast lap times are staying off the wall and using the rumble strips. You would be surprised at how much time you can lose just from a seemingly minor scrape of the wall. When I first took this car to the Free Run, I too was running 1'53s. But as I began racing, I would be able to pull off a high 1'52 on one lap and have inconsistent other laps. As I did more and more racing, I began to get mid to low 1'52s. Never could quite get a 1'51 (my best was a 1'52.013). Then I began to master getting around the cars as quick as possible to get off to good starts. What was once times of 2'03 on the first lap were now becoming times of 2'02.7, then 2'02.5, and finally high 2'01s.

For the switchback following the small straight after the first turn, I would enter from the middle of the track, lightly tap the brakes, turn in and clip the inside rumble strips, then head straight towards the right side rumble strips, making sure not to scrape the wall. This turn gave me a lot of trouble in the beginning but the number of times I had to go through this section helped me to get better at it. On average I could get through here at about 89mph. But if I really nailed it, I could get through here at about 92mph. Once you are the end of the turn and you can see where the track begins to straighten, ease off the rumble strips and straighten up. Make sure you don't sharply veer off the rumble strips as it can send the car sliding, and also be careful not to hit the outside wall.

For the next right hand sweeper, I started at the outside of the track and applied the brakes for about half a second (may be different for the Supra) just before the inside rail began to turn in. Cut across the track, but don't run up on the rumble strips just yet because there seems to be a kink in the middle of this turn that makes the turn get sharper. If you run up on the rumble strips before the midway point of the turn, the kink will throw you off the rumble strips and the car will head towards the outside wall. Once past the midway point of the turn, I would run up on the rumble strips and they would hold the car's line through the turn. The RX-8 was really good at holding the line through a corner, but I don't know about the Supra so you may have to tackle the corner a bit differently. Regularly, I could keep a speed of 92mph through this turn.

Accelarate on down the short straight and move to the outside of the track. Brake down to about 87mph and cut across to the rumble strips. This part is a bit tricky because the car seems to want to head outwards towards the wall, and if you hit it here then you will lose a lot of time on the back straightaway. Ideally, you want to go through this turn at about 86-88mph.

Fly down the back straightaway and clip both aprons at the small switchback. The RX-8 could get through here without lifting and still remain on the inside of the track. However, from my experience the Supra didn't do quite as well. It may be possible to go through here with the Supra at full speed, but I wasn't able to do it. Anyway, arrive at the top of the hill and get on the brakes for about half a second before the track turns. Get back on the gas and cut across the track, clipping the apron. This part requires good precision and timing. It is imperative that you clip/run over the apron so the car won't head towards the outside wall. Ideally, you want to get through here at about 96mph, but once I was able to get through here at 99mph.

Continue to the next right (make sure you clip the apron) and head down the downhill s-curve until you get to the sharp left hander. Brake for about another half-second and turn in. This turn is probably the most forgiving turn on the track, as you can turn in too early and make a steering adjustment and still come out good. Also, hitting the wall here is not nearly as bad as it is at the other sections of the track, assumably because of the upcoming turn.

For the last turn, start at the middle of the track and slow the car to about 58mph. Turn in and accelarate. It is better to run over the rumble strips than to just clip it this time. This is key to exiting the corner fast, which is crucial because the big straight follows this turn.

Well, you describe pretty much how I see the lines and most of the speeds you have are about what I remember. I would always take that switchback at full, taking advantage of both rumble strips and almost staight to the outside wall with minimal sliding (not enough to slow me down anyway). From here was a bit difficult to take the hard right because I'd have to go all the way back to the other side with barely enough room to do it efficiently and then cut across the apron like you said. I guess I could try easing off a little at the switchback to come into that right with a better angle/momentum... I did this line a couple times and it never 'seemed' quicker. Who knows. I imagine there are just a bunch of little things I'd need to work on. My runs were 100% clean but the Supra is heavy so the braking is a bit longer and I could cut down on some sliding. I'll try some more with all this in mind and let you know how it goes. Again, thanks for your help!

Soooo sorry guy's for disappearing mid series. No-one's more gutted than me. At least I have an excuse - BLOODY WORK took me to France for a couple of weeks without much notice. :(

Seattle (the last I ran but didn't post) would have been really close - I have a saved reply with a 2nd place time! Ahh well, next time eh.

Gonna have to watch some of you guy's in the future, especially you FuryX21... we shall meet again mwahaha... mwhahahahahahh.......

Awww, it's okay. I really don't mind a second place finish overall! :D

... and as for my progress, I ran some more laps on free run and was able to manage high 1'52's by just improving my time on the double right at the top of the hill following that switchback. I imagine I am still slow on the final turn before the straight and can see how low 1'52's are possible (probably 1'51's if I'd have worked on all the turns more)... man, you did really good with the RX-8 to get those times FuryX21! You deserve the overall cup for sure!

I too would have like to have raced more but I had a lot of schoolwork to do as it was the last few weeks of 6th form. So, any of you got any ideas for another good, close race series?

I have had one in mind for about the past 3 weeks now and had been working dilligently to get it ready but I just came back from a 2 week vacation and didn't complete it before I left. So I still need to complete it but it may not be too soon though because I went to Blockbuster today and rented a couple of games (including Medal of Honor: Frontline, which I hear is very good. I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet though). Won't be playing much, if any GT3, for the next few days.

Oh its going to be real good, if I ever get it off. I believe something is wrong with my modem so I haven't been able to get online in a week (seems like a month). I am writing this from a computer lab that my church owns. But my racing series will look to have over 90 cars available that I myself have run and tuned up to be equal. Those 90+ cars will go into different classes (about 8 in all). It will also feature race results in the form of commentary. Thats all I'm going to spill about it right now, so until next time (which will hopefully be soon)....
