Finally broke my old wheel out of the closet.

I've started using my old MadCatz MC2 Microcon PS2 wheel. Boy, this wheel sucks. It sucked when I got it years ago, and it still sucks now. Back when i got it, i would use it on CoolBoarders 3, "Steering" My snowboarder. it was funny as hell watching myself run right into the only tree on the mountain.

Well, i've started using it in GT4. I can't stand the dang thing. the wheel only goes, oh, 330 degrees lock to lock. It has a dead zone of about 70-80 degrees. then after i reach the end of the dead zone, it becomes more sensitive to changes in angle than my ps2(If i move my ps2 even a little bit while its on, it turns itself off, because somethings f-ed up with the soldering job that connects the power socket to the board). I might as well just use the d-pad in the center, since its much more predictable. I just can't stand using the damn thing.

Anyone know any way to adjust the Dead zone in gt4? You cannot adjust a thing on this wheel. It's Pathetic.

That is a neGcon equivalent. GT4 doesn't support the neGcon. I use my InterAct V3 with GT2 all of the time and it works perfectly, yet works like ass in GT4. When you are turning the wheel in the game, it is acting so suddenly because it is working in digital mode. It is the game's fault, not the wheel.

well, it plugs into the ps2's controller port, and gt4 supports it. it was just made crappy. I've heard several reports of people not being able to stand madcatz wheels.

You're missing the point. GT4 supports it as a digital controller. It does not support the wheel as a wheel. When you turn the wheel, it is essentially acting as a d-pad, meaning full-on or none. GT4 does not support the neGcon or its various equivalent controllers the way they were designed to be used. And it is not the fault of the controller. Hook it up to a PS1 racing game (or Ridge Racer 5, for that matter), and it will work great.

Actually the steering is analog. well it can be analog or digital(although it seems that the analog mode cannot be turned off in gt4) I can drive fine on the test track in an FGT. i can hold the wheel steady, and it stays steady. If it were all digital, it would just slam itself right into the inside wall.

Basically, the wheel acts like the left analog stick. Turn the wheel left does the same thing as pushing the stick left. The more you turn the wheel, the more the car turns. the problem with this wheel is it has a very long Dead zone of 40 degrees from the center position, followed by a very short sensitivity range of just 90 degrees, after which it hits the lock.

finally, someone that has the same wheel I do!

yes, the wheel does suck. I thought it was more like 270 degrees to locks.
and the wheel is too small in diameter (how about something real-life sized, not go-kart sized?)
Toronado has a point, it's considered a regular controller by GT4, thus, nothing's adjustable. hope you kept the box for returns. wish I could get rid of mine and get a properly supported wheel, but they don't sell them for anything but 360's at our local Gamestop.

oh, and Toronado...it doesn't work with PSX/One format games very well, either. There, it's the pedals :P

If you want a good wheel for any GT game, or just a good wheel in general it has to be a Logitech one.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend you can get a Driving Force (GT3 wheel), Driving Force EX, Driving Force Pro (GT4 wheel), Driving Force GT (GT5 wheel) or the infamous G25.

If you willing to spend even more money (£240 in the UK / $350 in the US) then you can get the Fanatec 911 Turbo wheel.

well, i would buy one if i had a job. I have an interview tomorrow at 4:00 pm local time with a sandwich shop, so, hopefully if i get that job, i can get enough money to pay my insurance(My mom makes me pay her back for my car insurance, since she pays for it fully every 6 months.

I only had it for about 3 days so I should be able to sell it back.

Edit: oh :censor: my brother tore up the box so I might not be able to return it!

oh, nice. you gotta have the box...

herman: depends on your store wether or not they even HAVE a wheel. also, since some of us won't use a credit card(i CAN'T anyway), online auction sites are out.

'scudo: geeze, haven't you guys heard of monthly payments? that'd save BOTH of you a load of money. I also gather you're on a "full coverage" scheme?

If the store you normally buy from doesn't sell it then get it online. You dont have to have a credit card. You can also use debit cards....

With regards to online auction sites (namely ebay) you dont need a credit card or a debit card. All you need is a bank account, then you can simply pay using PayPal, and they will simply take the money from your account via direct debit.

It's a payment of like $130-170 every 6 months. I could pay for that easily with one paycheck on minimum wage. I just wanna get all of my other expenses out of the way before I start buyin other stuff(Like a wheel)
