I rented GT6 over the weekend and so far I think GT6 is wonderful! Huge leap forward over GT5 by a longshot. I was able to put in a solid 6-8 hours this weekend and I am around 14% career completion. Own 10 cars. I LOVE the user interface. Miles and miles ahead of the GT5 UI. Opening cinema is great too. Really enjoyed it WAY better than GT5 opening cinema.
EDIT: Current stats. 25% through campaign, 15 cars.
My top main complaint with GT5 was the standards and all of their restrictions. Also hated how all the standards were in the used car dealership which was on a daily rotation. So good luck getting the vehicle you wanted. Especially the trucks. GT6 has handled the standards VERY well. The standards and premiums can be purchased from the dealership right away which is fantastic! It can be quite difficult to tell the standards from premiums on the track. In the dealership the only way to tell the difference right away is the "view gallery" button is greyed out. Once you are on the track you can tell right away if the interior view is still blacked out. But overall very happy with the standard / premium issue that I hated in GT5.
I really like the friendly and colorful tutorial as you make progress in the game or enter a new area. Some of those tips and tutorials are very fun and helpful. The car reward / car purchase screen is also a massive step forward over GT5. Now you get to see the vehicle at an angle and a slight turn. However I am a bit disappointed by the lack of reward cars. In all the previous GT games, when you finished an event like FF or FR you were rewarded a vehicle. The rewards seem to be a lot further spread out in GT6. But I guess that is okay. Not a huge complain. Coffee break is just as fun as always.
Weather and night racing are just as wonderful as they were in GT5. Such a great feature that every sim racer needs IMO. The blind spot indicators are also nice. I also like the new "car recommended" feature. Didn't care much for the moon racing.
Graphics are wonderful as always and I still love photo travel. Most of the standards have been touched up so its nice to see the effort PD has put into the cars. And being able to take the standards to the photo travel makes me so dang happy. I also like how we can have 2 cars in the photo travel. That's a really nice new feature. I also like the new GT Vision plus I got a free car. Even though it was a standard, its still a free car.
Physics are great other than some problem I had with a few stock AWD cars. Some of them had really bad under steer. I will use the Nissan GTR for example. I was shocked how much under steer that car had bone stock. I know with a few upgrades it would be better but dang, should not have it that bad.
I am glad we no longer have the paint "chips" but still a bit disappointed we cant just pick our own colors to paint the cars. You must buy a car or receive a reward car that has the color you want. Until then, you are stuck with the color you have. Its better than GT5, but still a bit clunky IMO just to paint a car or the wheels. Speaking of wheels, I like the new wheel selection menu a lot in GT6. Its the best it has ever been. You can even see different angles before purchasing the wheels.
A few other complaints I noticed right away involve the blinding lighting and car audio. Some of the lighting can be very dark and other times way too bright. This is the ONLY game I have ever had that problem with on my Sony Bravia. The audio is a bit strange in some vehicles and doesn't sound good at all. That's not really a new complaint, been like this for a while and over time it might improve. Also depends on the view you drive in. I do like the sound of the gravel rocks hitting under the car when you go offroad. That's a great touch. Oh also one part about the audio that really impressed me is how you can hear each individual tire squealing in the surround sound. Front left, front right, rear left, and rear right. That's a really nice touch for the audio. I also miss the oil change animation but that's not a big deal.
Really missing the shuffle option for online. I am sure that will be addressed in the near future. It was my favorite part of playing online. Oh and I do still truly enjoy the lobby system that allows you to practice racing while you wait for the game to start. Similar to the F1 games.
Overall the top complaints I had with GT5 really have been addressed in GT6. GT6 has brought my love back for the GT series that I haven't had since GT3 and GT4. The few small complaints here and there will most likely be addressed as the updates continue to arrive. Great job Kaz and PD. Now time to post some pics in the GT6 photo section.
