Finding a car

Hi.
I need help finding a car, but not just any car.
I am looking for a car that is:

Under 1200 kg (Super light weight - Average)
Small - Midsize range
Any year
Production car
Anything but FF
Any price
New or used
Not a ford focus
100+ horsepower stock (without addons to the engine or turbo kits)

If you know of any car(s) like this, or close to this, please post their names here.

I'd say your best bet would be a Lotus Elise or an Opel Speedster. They are very similar cars and both have moderate power for their size and price. ;)

Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600
1963
Italy
FR
115 BHP Stock
745Kg

Gotta win it from the Alfa GTA cup though...

There's also the Alfa Giulia Sprint Speciale with 112BHp and 950Kg, but only if you fancy tackling "1,000 Miles !"

Any Lotus Elise or Opel Speedster as mentioned by Mouser...or any MX-5..

There's more but that's a couple of suggestions

thanks. The lotus elise seems a good pick. The alfa is good; but im just looking for something with a bit more control. (after all if you do put some more power in that thing its gonna be unstable at the 5000+ rpm range.

just a question- would an opel tigra be a good choice?

Mini Cooper, there is an Edit feature for a reason, learn to use it. :)

The Opel Tigra isn't that great compared to the other cars suggested in this thread. ;)

Ok. I have decided to get a lotus elise. Which version is better. The sport elise 190 or the other one?

By the looks of things, Im saying the 190 is better. (unless you can convince me its not)
It has ~190 hp stock. I can probably get it to ~230.
the other one has ~120 hp stock. Fully tuned i can get it probably to ~190.
They are both the same wieght.

Now i know where to buy the newer elise,
but when can i buy the 190 in the used car lot?

Well...I could tell you when Top gear is on in the UK but doubt that's of any use to you lol.

Anyways, Elise wise...I tend to plump for the Type 72 or the MotorSport Elise myself. The only problem with the MS Elise is that at higher powers it does get a tad dodgey, but that can be fixed with some tuning I'm sure.

That's not to say the Elise, 190, or either 111 are bad of course. Elise 190 is a handy car...stock it can win the New York 200 Mile endurance with 200 A Spec points, so it's not to be argued with sometimes.

edit - as to the used car cycle, check the FAQ stickies, I believe there's a link to a Used Car cycle there.

Thanks. Ive been searching everywhere on the net for the used car cycles but couldnt find it. Well Ill just buy both the 190 and 111.
OH and smallhorses, thanks for saving me 12 grand for the opel tigra. almost forgot its a FF.
Oh and do u mind if i copy the less is more! less hp=more fun thing?.

Suzuki Cuppaccino is light, can be tuned to + 100 bhp, and is RWD.
The Lotus Elan is an old car, light weight, 100 + BHP, RWD and is a great drive on any track.
Some of the older 70's Japanese models may fall into the same requirements.
The old Celica and Galant come to mind.

This would be good exercise for GTVault's Advanced Search. (www.gtvault.com)

You can specify the drivetrain (no way to choose an exception though), horsepower range, torque range, weight, etc.

I'll cut you a deal. :sly:
If you read the AUP for GT Planet especially the 3rd from last bullet point, and start using proper English in your posts, for the benefit of our members who don't have English as a first language and find posts without capital letters, apostrophes and lazy spelling such as "u" instead of "you", then you can use the "Less is More!" thing!

Deal? 💡

Thanks. Ive been searching everywhere on the net for the used car cycles but couldnt find it.

You mean like these?
Complete Used Car Cycle List PAL version
Complete Used Car Cycle List NTSC version
Both of which are stickied (with a bold blue Read This! tag) on the first page of the Gran Turismo 4 forum!

Y'know...GTP needs to send a welcome message with links to stickies, a quick welcome and such when someone joins...then people won't need to bang in "Go to the stickies" on new members so much. I know other forums that do it and they never have troubles with people doing things they generally are asked not to do...should post it in the feedback section but I'm lazy and have a headache...

Ok. I will use proper english. It's just those "u" and "you" thing I use; nothing else.
No I didn't mean that kind of list. I want to sort my things not search them; and human experience in cars is better. A car may appear to be good; but it might not be.

Oh. I bought the lotus elise 111 '04 with 180 hp stock.
I bought a stage 2 turbo, racing exhaust, race brakes, prot polish, balancing, racing chip, rm tires, and race suspension, and of course I changed the oil after I bought it. Then I bought the roll cage or whatever that thingy is. (which may cause understeer)
I took it out on the course (nurburgring of course) and set suspension ride height to 105 mm in f/r. Roll bars to lvl 6 f/r, and turned off ALL driving aids.
(I also got a nice spoiler for it too). Anyways, It has 300 HP and weighs about 750 kg. It may sound to good to be true, but it handles almost like a Formula 1 car, and has great acceleration. (0-60 km/h in around 2 seconds. Its a bit of a challenge to drive sometimes and it takes some getting used to because it handles so good. The performance seems exadurated(sorry if i spelled it wrong smallhorses) but if you take out the turbo, it is still fun to drive; t feels more smooth through the turns. The turbo makes the car turn very sharply.

Oh, and I searched my TV yesterday and I found a Canadian BBC (Top gear being British, it seemed logical that it would be on BBC. So for anyone who lives in Canada - Top Gear is on channel 106 shaw digital cable or BBCC(BBC Canada) Next time it's on is at 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on Saturday MT time.

my MS Elise isn't wild at all! a proper piont and shoot supercar killer. of course its modified but thats what i want. the sport 190 is the best in the range though! i have a bright orange one thats fully modified and can out gun my 300MPH zonda on a track. definatly the one to go for if you can find one. check out my POWER PREFERENCES thread in the GT4 forum! :sly:

The Motorsport Elise, when fully tuned, has 333hp. I know this because I own one, in orange. :) It is also a lot lighter than the Zonda. The only reason that it beats your Zonda round tracks is because your Zonda will be set for high speed, therefore meaning longer gears, which in turn means slower acceleration, in favour of top speed: as is the usual with longer gears.

trial mountain with the zonda set to track racing rather than top speed. there both awesome in there own right though!:sly:

OK. You should have said earlier then. No problems.

I love my elise. The car is untuned and its just funny to see my friend in his Hemi Quad cab bieng beaten by a Elise with less horsepower. :sly:

You could also go for something a bit more unusual such as the Hommell Berlinette R/S Coupe or the Spyker C8 Laviolette. The Sprinter Trueno GT-Apex (AE86) Shuichi Shigeno Version fits your criteria and is a favorite of many - as is the RUF Yellowbird. All the Isuzus and most (all?) the TVRs would qualify.

Personally I would go for either the Lancia Stratos or the ASL Garaiya - depending on what I was using it for.
