Wasn't 100 percent on where this should be placed, but I figured this is the best area..

Incase some of you haven't heard/seen of this thing yet, Sonny's is building a 1,005 Cu. In. V8 engine that will boast 2,150+ Naturally Aspirated Horsepower. :drool:

That's about 16.5L. I wonder how much one of these beasts would cost... or how heavy it is.

Edit: nvm. Says cost is $95k - $120k.

I want to drop that in a slammed VW Bus SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad and honk my Dixie Horn as I drive by people.
 
I think I'll swap that into my 2 door Accent. Will have to put a seat, wheel, and pedals in the regular engine bay though. It'll be like a giant go kart.
 
Awesome looking motor. But not the first 1,000 cube V8. Not by a longshot:

The life span of this engine will be roughly ..... ? Probably not very long. Although it would be fun while it lasted for sure.
 
I would put it in a Ford Pinto :dopey:
What kind of fuel pump will it take/need?
And... what kind of twisted mind will supercharge it ;) or mad hatter yet, twin turbochargers :trouble:

Yeah true. If it is a drag motor most likely needs to be rebuilt after every run to make sure it is clean and perfect like it would in the first run.

That's impressive..

For reference, the Ferrari 458 produce 560 / 4,5 = 125 hp/liter, also non aspirated.
It takes a whole lot of engineering to put something like that together.
I'm guessing (without reading your link. Too tired right now) it will rev up towards 9 k rpm..
That's one crazy engine, jeeez..

What's left to see if it falls apart after 1/4 mile or if it have the same durability as the Ferrari engine.. My guess it's more of the "Fall apart after 1/4 mile" than a reliable road car engine though.

It's made as a drag motor.
So most likely not

It makes 2000+HP on race fuel (@8,000 RPMs), it makes 1650HP (@7,000 RPMs) in street legal trip with 92-octane. So more like 100HP/liter. I would like to know how much it weights, that would be really interesting.

Ok, that explains the extra 1k revs in my guestimation.. ;)

100 hp/liter is still concidered to be a good level for a non aspirated engine.. But far from 125 like in the Ferraris case..

But yeah, defenetly not as impressive as it initially seemed...

For reference, a BMW M3 E46 engine produce 343 / 3,2 = 107 hp/liter, non aspirated ofc.
 
haha this thing is totally absurd, I love it. I'd put it in a 1970 Chrysler 300 or one of those Dodge Monacos with the flip up headlamps. True story.

Not to mention the part where it's got 1000ci to play with. It'll probably make no less than 700 ft-lbs from idle onward.

No but it wouldn't hurt. I'm saying its ballsy as is but could better. Then again everything on anything could be improved lol

But yeah, single stroke torque don't say **** to be honest.
I'm guessing a F1 car will be fairly quick over the 1/4 mile..
And with nothing more than 190 lbft of torque.. :confused: ;)

Low-end torque is as useless as tits on a frog for drag racing.

There is no time during a drag run that you'd be at low RPM. Ever. Unless you're racing street cars. Got an auto? Also have a converter with a stall speed no lower than 4000rpm. Got a stick? Well it'll be getting launched at 6 grand then. :lol:

I never said there was anything wrong with a tunnel ram. All I'm saying is you could probably make more power with a different design, since tunnel rams are notorious for robbing power at low RPMs but ok. End of discussion.

They also work incredibly well at high RPM. Which is sorta the point of a race motor. When was the last time you wanted to go fast at 2000rpm?
 
Meh, one off drag motor doesnt do it for me.
