A five year anniversary thread nearly eight months after he actually had it? What is this? Am I secretly the Queen?
Yes, that is correct. Five years is a big milestone for me, so I wanted a proper thread to celebrate it; something long winded and meaningful. I put it off because I knew it would take a while, due to not always being the best at doing long length posts. So, here you are.
Five years. That’s a long time for anything. Duration of college, for example is the same length. To put it into an even more shocking way, 37% of my life. 37% of my life has been absorbed by simply the greatest forum on the planet. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend it anywhere else.
I started my journey back in 2009 at the very tender age of 9. Yes, not even double digits. Shortly after joining, I started a tuning thread within GT4, comically called Pimped Out! To put it simply, I had no idea what I was doing. The ‘tunes’, if you could even call them that were complete guesstimations based on the description GT4 gave and simply ‘what looked about right’. Later on, I was introduced to @mazdaman, in which we ended up joining forces. During this, I was introduced to a few people who really welcomed me into the world of forums and really made me not want me to leave. @LolCats, @Rotary Junkie, @mafiaboy, @Lucas and @GT-R and @shoman were all people who welcomed me like their own to make things as enjoyable as possible. @Rotary Junkie and @mafiaboy especially, who took the task of actually trying to help with my tuning stupidity and not continuing to leave me clueless.
It was also around this time when I met @Crooooooow for the first time, someone whom all these years later I still keep in contact with fairly often. For both of us, GTPlanet was still a learning experience for us so we were both discovering new things fairly often!
Later on, I decided to try my hand at photography within GT4. Doing this was probably one of my smartest ideas during my whole period at GTPlanet. Here, I met people like @Skython, a person who I still talk to everyday and wholly regard him as one of my closest friends not just on GTPlanet, but outside too. Even earlier than this, though, back when GT4 Photo Mode was still in its prime, I was introduced to some of the all-time legends. People like @Swiss Legend, @NTX, @Nicknamealguem, @jgda9rs, @Rayquaza, @Moglet, @SlipZtrEm, @440 CHARGER, @JacoJa, @GrumpEone and last, but certainly not least, @Bram Turismo. These people, are people who were really the ones that got me interested in the whole Photo Mode scene, and if it wasn’t for them I probably wouldn’t be interested in photography at all.
Fast forward a few years, and that brings me to GT5. This was where I was finally starting to get noticed. I was finally able to be given the tools I needed to get pictures how I wanted. Like most people, I started out rough (though that’s not saying I still am). Thanks to people like @Jacob, @nanabu, @jus1029, @gtuned, @SMfan, @Apok, @sems4arsenal, @nato777, @Solo, @20832, @TVR&Ferrari_Fan, @Nuschel01, @SlipZtrEm, @GT-R, @arora, @Grand Prix and @Croooooow, I was able to improve to a somewhat decent level. Many of these people I still keep in contact somewhat regularly. It just goes to show how many individuals can effect one’s attitude to something.
Due to the wait to finally get my driver’s license rapidly decreasing, I have been starting to take more interest within the cars in general forum, to try and get a good sense of mechanical knowledge to make the start of my driving profile as mistake free as possible. A shout out to @UrieHusky, @homeforsummer, @Liquid, @Joey D, @McLaren, @Wiegert, @SlipZtrEm, @Tornado, @Famine, and @niky for making very insightful posts within the forum, which have been incredibly beneficial to me!
GTPlanet has also introduced me to many inspirational people, with people such as @homeforsummer and @niky being very instrumental in my quest to also become an automotive journalist.
So, I think that brings us to a close. Thank you to everyone for making these five and a bit years so awesome!
Here’s to another 5!
