Fixed bhp but not equal speed.

Hi

Appols if this has been posted before, I have tried searching for it.

I'm in a fixed bhp & weight league and I've noticed a difference in performance between cars.

For example, I was driving along side another car with 9bhp less, yet they pulled away from me. I looked at the members list and while bhp and weight was correct, the pp was considerably different.

I run stock everything power wise. Is there any advantage in adding all the power upgrades and reducing power via the limiter?

I doubt it's gearing as I'm just hitting the limiter when slipstreaming.

Yes - which is why I always limit it to 95% or greater.

Also ride height, camber and toe will (all other things being equal) affect top speed, as will gearing (as you mention) and aero (especially flat floors). Also don't discount that they had nitrous unless the lobby bans it.

Just because the cars all have the same weight and power means nothing unless you are all in the same car. The pp system relies on much more than just these two factors, which is why the pp is so different.

As well as all of the tuning options @Famine has mentioned above, the other thing that will make the difference is simply the engine in the car, they are not the same and will not perform the same. The power really means little on it's own, you may have the same power but you may have this peak at different RPM, lets say you have 500BHP as a max at 4500RPM and the other car may have the same 500BHP but peaks at 6500RPM, the second car will have more chance of increasing speed further down the road as it will be in its power band there, where as the first car will run out of steam and will not be able match it. Torque also plays a huge part but for more details on this I would recommend checking out the Torque thread at the top of the forum, I get the basics but not to the level where I feel comfortable explaining it, there are far more knowlageble people in this subject than I.

Edit: Oh, also I forgot to mention the possibility of using ballast to achieve the fixed weight. This could also affect the speed as their car could have had the ballast used is such a way as to gain extra traction over the drive wheels or inversely it can be used to lighten the load on the drive wheels if that is what is required.

There are just so many factors that can be causing such a difference of speed between 2 cars of the same power and weight, regardless really, of whether the cars are the same on not.

Thanks for the replies.

For info, it's a same car league, my opponent had a -5% bhp success penalty; we came out of the last hairpin on twin rings east, I initially pulled away side by side, but by the time we get to the line he's pulling past me. I'm on minimum aero F and B. I'm like... "wtf" lol

Gotta work this out if you know what I mean.
