Two teenagers are in hospital after being hit by a police car on the NSW south coast.

A male senior constable was driving with flashing lights in Kalandar Street, Nowra about 9.45pm (AEDT) on Sunday when the teenagers ran out in front his patrol car, police said.

The officer hit the brakes and swerved but was unable to avoid hitting the pair, a statement from police said.

The 15-year-old Nowra boy and 15-year-old East Nowra girl were not seriously injured but have been taken to Shoalhaven Hospital and kept under observation.

The senior constable was breathalysed with negative result, while his patrol vehicle was towed from the scene, police said.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

It's slightly ironic that I'm watching superbad while reading this, although yes kids should be more careful.

Thread title should be altered to "if you hear sirens look around and don't go anywhere near a bloody road until it's gone!!!" .....

Ok I will remember to avoid crossing the road when I am on an island separating the two directions of traffic and an Ambulance comes the down the other road.

Seriously though what were these people doing? It's not like they could expect them to stop.

That's no surprise to me. You can't go through our school parking lot without people (students, teachers, parents, and a cop, once) just walk out in front of you. I guess they think they have an invisible shield that will protect them when the cars going through the lot aren't paying attention, brakes fail, or both people expect each other to stop. All of which has happened at my school. Part of it is because people are stupid and don't pay attention when crossing, and part of it is kids that think they're cool by going 55mph in a parking lot thats got a 10 ft wide lane and a 15mph speed limit. Some of it is also kids being overly-impatient.

Sometimes when kids cross when not supposed to, and are hit, they just get up and walk away. But here we've had plenty of injuries and even a death because of the idiot parents and students.

If I was a police officer, I'd 🤬 a lot of people off. Too many idiot drivers. Hell, I was just driving through my neighborhood the other day (which has 2 slightly sharp turns). It had just snowed and ice was all over the ground. He comes flying through the turn at about 30mph (20mph speed limit, plus ice on ground) and I had to floor the brakes. Luckily, there was a tiny piece if dry road that I got some traction on, if not, I would've hit him. Part of me wishes I would've hit him, though.

Sorry about maybe getting off topic and definitely just rambling on - but - don't you guys just hate it when cops think they are above he law? Everyday I see them speeding. And a lot of times at a long stoplight they turn on their lights, go through the intersection and turn them off. Maybe I should get a dashcam. It'd definitely keep me from writing all of this.

I was in San Francisco a few years back and walking downtown when I heard a very noisy siren. About 30 seconds later a huge fire truck came down the street making a hell of a lot of noise, everyone was watching apart from two women who stepped out in front of it as it made a left turn. Luckily the driver must have seen the potential for it to happen and stopped inches from them. At which point they both froze in a scream of fear. How on earth they didn't know it was there when I heard it a good thirty seconds before I will never know.

In San Francisco pedestrains have the right of way, and they're used to it. They walk off the curb without looking, knowing that traffic will stop.

Although missing the noise of a fire truck does seem to imply a little self-absorption, doesn't it?

Then it's not the fireman's fault if they hit a person crossing the street no?:sly:

I remember a firefighter yelling at a woman to "Move yer ass!" because her car blocked the way.

How do you not see the light or hear the sirens. When I have my noise cancelling headphones in I make sure to look twice when going on the road. Common sense people. Only time I've ever been close to being hit is when some prick ran a red light an clipped my heel trying to be cool with a car full of people. Other than that you look, cars? Don't walk. No cars? Walk.

I'd be willing to bet that they had music blasting into their ears and couldn't hear the car. I get fed up of waiting behind people like this in car parks; they can't hear what's going on around them and so they don't react.

Do you think they want to cream some idiot?

How much does a firetruck weigh?

50,000kg? and they are flat on the front so it is like a brick wall hitting you at 50mph(22.2m/s).

P=mv

50,000kgx22.2m/s=1,110,000kg-m/s

Plus they then have to stop to help this idiot, which means another firetruck has to be called out to do what ever the first one was going to do.

So it is a fire if any people are trapped they may die because of some idiot not paying attention.

I think SBK posted that jokingly, based on how he added a "sly" smilie. When talking about right of way, cops/fire trucks/ambulances have precedence over everything by law. To think otherwise is just asking to get yourself splattered by a fire truck going at twice the speed limit.
