Flavio wants two races on Sunday

I can see it happening at some point, most other race series seem to be going with this train of thought. They should do the same with Le Mans - one 24 hour race in the morning followed by another, reversed grid 24hr race in the afternoon ;)

No seriously, F1 should stick to the traditional single race format. The two rounds per day trend is for struggling series IMO to bring more interest. F1 still has plenty of interest for the fans.

Flavio wants 2 races so that in the reverse grid race, Renault will be nearer the front!

Ah good old Flav, always coming out with the ridiculous ideas. Hail no to this, Formula 1 race format is fine as it is, they don't need to start experimenting with the sport now.

I don't know if the Honda F1 team could handle being embarrassed twice in one day. It's bad enough being at the back all race without then having to do another one where you'll be overtaken by the majority of the field :indiff:

That's actually an awesome idea. But not just gridded, say P1 finishes 3 laps ahead of P2, then the next race P2 starts on there 3rd lap, and so on. So in theory all the cars of all the classes should complete the race on about the same lap!

Genius....

That would never work Casio as you'd be presuming the teams/cars/drivers would repeat what they did in the first race. Not to mention how long it would take for P1 to go after P22.

Unless you're being sarcastic...

I wasn't actually. But to be honest, I didn't really think it through and it's 1am...

This isn't really true. I am a big fan of F1 and even I admit a majority of races nowadays are somewhat boring and don't have much action.

Main reason I guess is the way they have the cars where if you sit in another car's draft, your car washes out or whatever, so you can't sit close in corners, makes it hard to overtake (wasn't like this in the 80s for example, or 90s for that matter). I think they should work on that rather than arrange the races in a way to make it exciting.

That being said, I think it would be an awesome an idea to ahve a reverse grid at some point to see how the likes of Raikkonen and Alonso go through the pack.

I agree that the races are more often than not fairly mundane. But TV viewing figures and crowd attendance figures are still high.

I would also add that with the main problem being the lack of overtaking - will two boring races better than one boring race per day?

didn't they think up of that rear split wing a couple years back and said that they would introduce it into F1 to promte overtaking?

I think we should have night races before we have split races.

Besides, two races a weekend would mess up the engine rulings and if the V8 Supercars are anything to go by (alright, so they're not in the same category, but at least they've run reverse grids), the idea of running a reverse grid is not only stupid, but drivers hate it.

Isn't the qualifying system a "second" race in itself?

It won't happen...Unless the FIA ditches the safety car and there's a sudden downpour in the middle of a race, but not during an over-60%-race-distance situation. With the exception of street courses in Australia, mind you.

Why not turn this into the Indianapolis 500...with rookie days, time trials, practice, qualifying, practice, more qualifying, Carburettor Day, and maybe a race?

Because that would be silly.

Besides, if you look at the draft draft calendars for the next few years (Wikipedia being my source ... alright, so it's not Gospel, but good enough), new events are suggested for Singapore, India, South Korea, the rebirth of Pacific Grand Prix, a new "Mediterranean Grand Prix" possibly in Valencia, a new home for the French Grand Prix from 2009 (no French round in 2008) and the confirmed new round at Abu Dhabi, the F1 calendar is looking at 23 races all up (don't know what Mr. E has planner - but who does? - as he's said in the past that he wants to limit it to 20 rounds), so if Flav has his way, that's 46 races ...

Qualifying nowadays is more exciting than the actual race. Don't get me wrong, I like qualifying, but they should have the race more exciting.

Example, look at World Superbike this season, very very exciting racing. Now I'll admit, some seasons of WSBK have been boring, but it's doing pretty well now.

Anyway, I think we all agree they should focus more on increasing overtaking rather than get a 2nd race.

Exactly, this is why reverse grids in F1 is just Mickey Mouse. F1 is the pinicle of motorsport, teams don't spend millions extracting 100ths of a second from their lap times to start a race from the back of the grid.
