? for all you b-spec veterans...

Alright everybody, laugh if you must at this question, I would if I read it. I'm a 10 year GT veteran, which makes what I'm about to ask, all the more baffling/embarrassing to me.
I'm at level 26 a-spec...I know, nothing special. I just got my level 6 on b-spec...yeah, even less special than the a-spec. In a nutshell, it seems that my bob is much more capable of handling my 500 hp, '79 Countach than my 214 hp Vitz. umm...what? Follow me on this. I've gotten all golds on the beginner b-spec series with no real issues....except for one of the !@#$ Vitz races. The Fuji track to be more precise. It seems that the higher his stats go up the worse he's getting. I tell him to pace up, he hits the brakes, even on a straight away. I tell him to pace down, he accelerates right off the track, regardless of how early I tell him to pace down. On the main straight, I've told him to pass, what's he do...?...he hits the brakes and pulls in behind a car, rear-ends him, then promptly drives off the track. I've got the fully adj. tranny tuned perfectly(imo), fully adj. suspension, tuned perfectly(imo), traction control set to 8, all the engine goodies, and stage 3 weight reduction. I cannot, for the life of me, get a better than 8th place finish with him. Regardless of what I tell him to do, he just will not pass the 2nd and 1st place cars. At one point, as everybody was accelerating out of turn one, there was a nasty pile up on the outside of the turn. My bob was is 8th place, nowhere near the pile up. Take a wild guess what he did....yep, he drove directly into the pile up, even tho, before he hit the corner, I hit pace down. So, I went and did a couple other races with the bobber to get his stats up. I got him up to level 6 and figured I'd go back and do the race again. NOT! Never finished better than 11th. I know he's only at level 6 but, come on. He killed with the Countach but he's being killed by the Vitz. So I ask you all...what am I doing wrong...what..am..I..doing..wrong..?? :scared:

Early on they like over powered, monsterous machines. A lot of the times in the higher levels, like the NASCAR series and Historical events, I would skip thouse until they were at a much higher level. Case in point, in the FW challenge on SS5, Bob tried everything in the world to rip the doors off of his civic. I put him in my 898hp Audi R8 and he'll keep the thing between the pipes every time.

It's not you, they're just "special." Much like the Stig farm, every once in a while one makes it through.

Some Bob's handle cars differently. Your bob must not be a fan of Vitz's.

I would suggest waiting until level 10 to hire a second bob or firing the current one and hiring another.

Thanks for your replies guys. I was expecting to get some flip answers like"..must be the manager telling him what to do.."which, I admit, could very well be the case. But, since you guys said what you said, now that I think back... the more powerful cars I used for some of the beginner b-spec races, he didn't seem to have many issues with them. I agree with you Jason_B...they are "special". Shinzah...I agree, he hates the Vitz as much as I do. Me and bob...we feel the need...THE NEED FOR SPEED!!

I'm seeing the same thing. I started doing the B-spec to get some new cars otherwise I never would bother with it. I want to drive, seems pretty silly to begin with. I'm at level 29 and just started the b-spec stuff so i have some powerful cars to give him. At first I started to use cars that were similar but he was terrible so I just give him a Ferrari now or something else that is crazy better than his competition and he drives well. Oddly I had no issues in the Vitz race.

Such a problem i havn't had with even one of my bobs (right now i have 5. b-spec lvl 27)

There is a easy trick in b-spec:
You have to let your bobs heat in the center of the bar.
if its to cold, he will get slow.
if its to hot, he will drive faster, but will do stupid mistakes.

as soon as your in distance tell him to "overtake". make shure it isn't at a point where its near imposible. he isn't a magican.

I#ve won this way everything till now easyly exept of NESCAR Daytona, but there i've got the wrong setup. second try i've won there too.

and yes, every bob has its own mind, but i havn't even one, where this strategy didn't work on all races.

Neo-about 90% of time my bob's heat is all the way to the right. Hot all the time...it didn't even occur to me that he'd make dumb mistakes. I actually thought the hotter he was, the faster and more precise he would be. So I need to try to keep him pretty even in the center of the bar then? I actually did just level up and can get another bob in my crew...maybe I should get him ready and try using him. Or, since he's an fng, maybe he might do so well..?
As far as the overtaking...it's bizarre what he does. If I just let him go and do what he wants to do, he'll pass cars on a straight...and like I said, if I tell him to overtake, he'll goose the brakes and pull in behind the car I'm telling him to pass.
So tell me something, when exactly am I supposed to tell him to overtake...when he's right behind a car, or several car lengths behind the car? It just seems that whenever I tell him to overtake, he interprets that as drafting. I don't know, I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the reply.

"overtake" will always let your bob go behind the ai he should overtake. its the command which will let him use the slipstream to accelerate and nearly bump the car bevor overtaking. if he already is in good position "pace up" is the better choice.

an the hotter your bob is, the more he goes for the limits and the more he will go "all out"
that means he will drive fast and risky.

in the middle of the bar there is a purple area. in this area he will do good pace and not risk to much. you will see that he'll do better laptimes by doing less mistakes. (often they where very small, like going to fast into corners oder to hard into curves...)

I haven't had this problem with a lot of my Bobs but one of them cannot drive slow cars for toffee. I can give him the FGT and he will win the FGT championship. If I put him against fair competition in the MR cup, he will blow it every time.
I think each Bob has likes/dislike that account for the way they race.
Some even do better without guidance like the one I'm racing now, whereas others will fail unless I give them step by step instructions.

I am lvl 24 b-spec and I have had this problem.

A few things I have learned from forums/my own experience is that
drivers (as posted above) generally drive certain cars better as they are exposed to them more often. If you are having him drive the Countach (which is MR or 4wd I would imagine) a lot, he will gain more experience in that field. Generally when I approach a new race series, I pit my best car that fits (generally I like to be 75+ hp above the opposition) the requirements and watch to see how he does without many commands, then coach as needed. If he is having a lot of trouble in the turns, I make sure I equipped the correct tires, adjust any suspension issues or pace him down in the trouble corners. If after 5 races I can't tune/increase hp/suspension fixes the car to place, I skip it and either try a different series or wait till my bob levels up and come back to it later.

I would agree that b-spec drivers have their fair share of issues, but don't let it turn you off of b-spec. I have had a lot of fun (especially high end b-spec) coaching my team and is a great way to supplement your a-spec career with credits, not to mention the b-spec reward cars.

Good luck!

I like how you guys have your explanations about why Bob is an idiot...but I'm pretty sure he's just an idiot sometimes.

My favorite is probably on Indianapolis. Bob approaches a car. The track is wide enough to fit 6-7 cars, mind you. Bob keeps approaching. He is gaining fast. Surely he'll go around this car, right? It's obviously going slower than he is, so he could just go around it. Come on, Bob...go around, go around, go around, GO AROUND, F&*#ING GO AROUND WHAT THE F&*# ARE YOU DOING?! WHY ARE YOU SLAMMING INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR JUST GO AROUND HIM!

Fortunately, if you put Bob into a fast enough car, this ridiculous behavior becomes irrelevant. But jeez, PD did a ridiculously horrible job programming the driver AI in this game.

Bobs are stupid, what can you do. Just get him an overpowered car and he should win each and every time. I only had issues with the historic race - Cote Azure, but even that was only for a bit of time :)

Once you get to the later stages, you can put a level 0 bob in a FGT on a speedway (the oval) and he will come 1st, plus gain like 8 levels.

YES!! Exactly!! Dude, this is exactly what I was yelling at my tv watching bob come up behind all the other vitz's yesterday. More than enough room for an aircraft carrier to to park on the main stretch of the Fuji speedway and he drives right up their exhaust pipe....every...single...time. Bob...I hate you.:grumpy:

See, my bob cleaned house on Cote d' Azure using the Lambo no problem. I just set up my new bob today...I'll see what he can do. His name is Repo...hehe.:dopey:

Everything I've read seems to be decent advice. Bob really struggles in one-make races (just like us! :sly:). Honestly, you might be better off just coming back when your Bob is a higher level.

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure that you have equiped the highest-quality tires available for the event! It makes a huge difference!

Yep...always do. I decked the Vitz all out. I did everything to it. The thing that chaps my hide the most is on the main straight. He'll start passing w/o me prompting him, then not even half way down, he'll lay on the breaks and pull in behind a car, then everyone passes him. What a tard.

Okay thats definitly a lack of brakeing skill. some more level should help with that. on higher levels things like corner speed (i hope thats the right word XD) and precition are more important for bob.

Buy the turbo Vitz from the used car lot if you can find it, it's pretty rare though. The Turbo Vitz is fast enough to win it STOCK! But you could always upgrade it.

I got one up for trade if you'd like it, just click on the link in my sig.

Seriously Ive posted this a lot today, feel like a salesman..
"Turbo Vitz for sale, beautiful fresh white color. Beat the Vitz race no problem you'll be happy for long long time!!!"

Had the same problem.
Skip the race and go on to other ones.
After Bob has gained several levels, go back and try it again.
Mine couldn't get better than 6th. After he leveled up about 5 more times, he went back and smoked the field in the Vitz.
