Ford and Chevy doing the same thing?

I think that "retro" is in right now, because kids that were teens in the late 60's and early 70's have put the kids through college, and have $30 grad to drop and a new car that lets them "relive" their youth.

Yes, I would rather see fresh designs. Many people didn't like the recently deceased Camaro, but I rather liked how it looked. Ditto the "New Edge" and SN95 Mustangs. These designs will have more lasting appeal because they do not plagerize the past. A retro mustang may be a hit now, but I doubt that it will be worth that much in 20-30 years.

Well, I think this retro crap is gonna be the downfall to american performance. Seeing the Europeans just wipe us americans clean with their cars in auto racing seems to not be the plan. I wish some Amercan car company can offer something as good as a ferrari enzo.

But the Corvette C6 is about the best the pure american car companys car ever offer states wide.

1, is a fresh design a new look, even though it does have a hint of C5 in it, but its still a design thats not 40/50 years old.
2, it don't mock any retroness. Thats good.
3, it still has a good American V8 pushing out as much power as it can, stock wise. Thats american stuff.

I like the retro designs that are coming out now. They're better than the retro designs from the previous few years. The Prowler is fugly and so is the PT Cruiser. Along with a handful of other designs.

Ford has done well with their retro styling. The Mustang, GT 40, and Shelby Cobra all look great.

Agreed. But the American public isnt helping much by calling new ang original desings like the GTO a "gussied up Grand Am." Wasnt the original Goat just a gussied up Tempest?

The 300C and Dodge Magnum are other good examples of fresh and powerful American designs, although they are underpinned by M-B bits.

The GTO is stolen from holden. I don't like it too much myself. They just put a Pontaic badge on it and a different grill and then puts in into production..

Now, Dodges are pretty nice. They are fresh from the drawing board.

The GTO...well I respect your idea that it is really just a "stolen" Aussie car, but.....I think it has all the characterisitcs of a muscle car.
1) Big hi-po V8. Check.
2) Manual tranny option. Check.
3) Coupe body. Check.
4) Negligible back seat and trunk space. Check.

Now where is the steel wheels, rubber floor option, radio delete, no traction contol or AC model that should be under $25 grand?

That and the base Buick V6 from the base Monaro.

Anyways, I hope the F-4 design continues to evolve. I liked the F-4, especially the 1998 update. (new nose on Camaro, 'wide body' Firebird) The Trans-Am as well. In fact, I think the Trans-Am looks better with that in-your-face hood scoop on the later WS6's. We don't need the F-Bird, but the Camaro deserves to be a modern muscle car.

Only bad thing about the F-4 was that the LS1 was completely engulfed by the firewall (for decent crash-test results, I think) and it looked like you were smuggling a brick of coke under the passenger-side carpet.

Engine setback in the new Mustang and GTO is way more reasonable.

Today, you can build an entire '69 Camaro clone entirely with aftermarket parts (just like you can build a Model T roadster). Why would Chevy produce something that is already being sold?

Now why do they remind me of Hotwheels?
They sorta look too weird... Like those over done Hotwheel toys of cars or something...
I think its the paint scheme they came up with... Bright colors... Very bright...

I think the GT40 has great retro styling... But the new Mustang and the new Camaro is just to weird... But then, I never seen both in person so... I guess I can't say much about them...

It's "GT" dammit, there was never a '40', that's just a nickname. If you doubt me, ask Caroll Shelby. He'll give you a similar, albeit more 'colorful' answer.

No, it was called the GT40 because it was 40 inches in height. ( I think that was the reason. He had to do something with the car height. )

The Ford GT was over 40 inches.

Don't be an idiot Darin, that camaro is a render by a teenager who put together his ideas on how badass a camaro should look.

Eh..... I thought he was only talking about the new car...... I always knew that the old one was the GT40..... I just have a problem calling the new one GT... Something seems missing with that kinda name~

You beat me to it sUn

I defintely agree that the new retro cars are SO much better then those of a few years ago.

GT40 is fantastic, and the mustang is nice as! Much better then the thunderbird or chrysler crap.

C6 Corvete is a fantastic looking car but I can see retro (ok maybe more evolution) in it. Pardon me for saying so but look at the shape of the bonnet and the front structure looks to have evolved from the C3, to the C4, C5 and then this.

Anyone see it? 👍

The C4, C5, and C6 are all evolutionary rather than revolutionary in my eyes. The C3 owes more to earlier Corvettes than the newer ones I think.

honestly this retro idea isn't that bad, aslong as they don't attempt it on EVERY car that used to have history (T-bird)....And the prowler is a good enough example as to how retro doesn't work 100% of the time.....The GTO, is a gussied up grand am.....I'm sorry but it's true....If you're going to badge something "GTO" you better make it stand out...something the GTO doesn't do very well.....If they were to retro the GTO to look similar to the 1970 GTO or something i'd appreciate it a little more....
New stang 👍
Camaro Concept 👍
In my book
as for C5 to C6 evolution......I think the LEAST evolved part of the car is the asthetics...It looks different, but it's not as dramatic a leap as the C4-C5 or C3-C4...Nice car still

the gt 40 is 40 inches tall and the new GT is 44''

"fresh" designs for normal cars are getting downright ugly. Look at most European cars these days. Trying to be different but instead they are disproportioned, bluntnosed, edgy looking design disasters. Futuristic look is alright, but when a car starts looking like a spaceship, unless its a supercar with 300+ BHP it just doesnt look right. a perfect axmple of future design gone wrong is new BMW and Lexus designs. Horrible.
Retro on the other hand, modifies and updates classic tried and true designs that were highly appealing and beautiful. Perhasp the modern result isnt quite as stunnig, but IMO the trends these days are futurism, and so anything NOT futuristic is going to stand out and be remembered.

Do you have down syndrom? The new GTO has nothing in common with a Grand Am except for the Pontiac badging. And on that note, there is no more Grand Am.
