In the late 1960's and early 1970's ex-British Saloon Car Champion (1959) and former Ford Motorsports Manager Jeff Uren used his considerable skills to develop a range of ultra fast Ford's. These included the 160mph Boss 302 V8 powered Capri Stampede (already posted),

the Comanche and Navaho Escorts and most legendary of all the 3 litre V6 Ford Cortina Savage. The cars didn't just feature bigger Ford engines, but the running gear including brakes and suspension were uprated.

The Jeff Uren cars were produced, with the approval and sometimes assistance from Ford, but only a small number were estate models. Although the interior isn't shown, it was very luxurious for the time being based on Ford's range topping 1600E model.

Bonnet openings feed extra air to (in this case) 190 bhp 3 litre Essex V6. A relatively small number of Savage Cortinas and Commanche Capris were fitted with special versions of the Ford V6 modified by Weslake - the top of the range was the 220 which featured triple twin choke Weber carbs and 218bhp. I was lucky enough to see one of the few surviving Weslake 220 Savage Cortinas at a car show recently.

The Jeff Uren modified Ford's were extremely well engineered - some 1,700 were made and they are now highly sought after collectors items. I realise it's a long shot, but inclusion of a Jeff Uren car would be a fitting tribute to Jeff who sadly passed away from cancer in 2007.
