Ford's hot version of the Escort in 1968 was the Escort Twin Cam powered by the same motor used in the Mark 1 and Mark 2 Ford Cortina Lotus. Jim Clark had won the British Saloon Car Championship (BSCC) with a Ford Cortina Lotus in 1964 and in 1968 the Escort's sporting credentials were established when the Australian Frank Gardner won the championship in his Alan Mann prepared Escort Twin Cam.

883 examples of the Mark 1 bodied Escort were fitted with the twin cam Lotus engine and are highly valued today - their rarity assured by low production numbers.

The original road car produced 106 bhp from its 8 valve 1.6 engine, but with the BSCC now running to very relaxed Group 5 specifications, in 1968 Gardner was allowed to use a 215bhp 16 valve Ford Cosworth motor (for 1969 rule changes required use of the 8 valve Lotus twin cam motor in 195bhp form).

If we had this car perhaps PD could give us a body upgrade option similar to the Shelby GT350 except in this case it would give the option for the flared arches, big wheels and two tone paint of the Alan Mann team cars.
