Above Frank Gardner, three time BSCC Champion piloting his Alan Mann Racing prepared Ford Falcon Sprint around Brands Hatch in 1967. This is a paint scheme I would love to have in GT6 - the red with gold stripe and gold roof of the Alan Mann Ford Team.

For the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally Ford were granted an incredibly light homologation weight of 960kg for their Falcon Sprint (the rally ready car weighed 980kg dry) together with a powerful 4.7 litre V8 this enabled superstar driver Bo Ljungfeldt to set the fastest time on every special stage - the Ford was awarded second place to the Mini on handicap.

The British Saloon Car championship ran to group 2 regulations from 1961 to 1965, but for 1966 it switched to group 5 which enabled the heavily modified Ford Falcons to race at 960kg ending the reign of the previously dominant Class D (Big Class) Ford Mustang. Somewhere between 12 and 16 cars (including test cars) had been prepared for the Monte in 1964 and these came out of storage to dominate the British Saloon Car racing scene for several years. Weighing less than a ton and sporting more than 350bhp from quad twin choke webers (Alan Mann cars) fuel injection (Roy Pierpoint) and even supercharging (Sir Gawaine Baillie) and running on wide magnesium alloy wheels these thundering beasts left a great impression on the public and helped establish Ford's performance heritage.

An old Alan Mann advert featuring the ex-Sir John Whitmore Silverstone winning Falcon - sold off after winning the one race it was built for!
