Mustang RTR is the vision of World Champion drifter and Mustang mad man, Vaughn Gittin Jr. When creating RTR, his dream was to introduce something new to the Mustang world that appeals not only to younger generations, but also to any traditional muscle car enthusiasts and overall automotive enthusiasts as a whole. The Mustang RTR takes the best of multiple automotive cultures and tastefully meshes them together into a final product that anyone can immediately appreciate and see themselves behind the wheel of – whether they are "slaying" a set of tires, blasting a straight, carving some turns, linking a section on the drift circuit, or simply just cruising along with their better half.
The RTR-X is the first car in the RTR Project. The car uses the chassis of a 1970 Mustang Boss 302, but everything inside the car is all new.
The Boss 302 chassis is heavily reworked with an Art Morrison front subframe and a new body designed by Andy Blackmore and Vaughn Gitten Jr. The car has 18" Work Meister rims and uses Falken RT-615K tires, with 255's on the front and 295's on the rear.
The engine is the same 5.0 V8 used in the 2011 Mustang GT but with Motec M800 ECU and Kinsler throttle fuel injection. It also uses a Boss 302R1 6 speed manual transmission with an Exedy racing clutch. Its 401 wheel horse power on 91 octane is not a huge number by contemporary Muscle Car requirements, but it’s a best amount of usable, obtainable power for this 3,160 pound framework.
