In 2013, Team Ford Racing announced it would enter two South African-built Ford Rangers in the 2014 Dakar Rally in South America. The purpose-built Ford Rangers were prepared and built by Neil Woolridge Motorsport in Pietermaritzburg with assistance from Ford Motor Company's Developments Division as well as several global counter parts, including Ford's SVT Division.

The Dakar Ranger is closely related to the local-specification vehicles, but has been purpose-built to the Dakar-specific FIA regulations. Construction is world class, using complex, custom jigs that ensure perfect part fitment and repeatable quality and safety standards. It features a full composite body, with overhangs radically trimmed to optimize approach and departure angles. Behind its lightweight, 26-inch Evocorse Wheels sits four Brembo brakes (Air Cooled Front and Water Cooled rear) as well as a bespoke, independent suspension system front and rear with BOS Dampers. Powering it is a 5 liter Aluminum 4-Valve V8, delivering 368 Hp and 560 Newton Meters of Torque, all from a Sadev 6-Speed manual Gearbox and permanent All-Wheel Drive. This would make a worthy addition not just for being another Competition Truck and another Ford design, but it would add a South African built machine to an already interesting mix of vehicles.

Engine: Naturally Aspirated 5.0L V8 with TIVCT
Horsepower: 348 hp
Transmission: SADEV 6-Speed Sequential Manual
Weight: 1,975 Kg
Drivetrain: All-Wheel Drive
